Single flash made of the same tartan as the kilt.

Single or double for me. Not too big on the loops.

Hmm.. interesting thread.
Personally, flash and loop in solid colours (slight preference for red as, I believe, that's the principal military colour. Have quite a few sets with elastics attached - I too have the problem of them digging in and so removed the original elastics with the intention of sewing them to make it possible to exchange the one longer pair of elastics I have across all the flashes. However, I have found that the fabric with the F&L is so thick I can't sew it by hand. Groan.

Guys, let me ask this. What KIND of elastic is cutting into your legs? There are 3 major types used today, Knit, braided and non-roll or "ribbed". Knit is generally the least expensive so I figure it was used. Braided is thicker and much more comfortable and stretches farther. That's the type I made mine from.

I like them all....different flashes for different turn outs. partial to the traditional garter ties like the STM sells and some folks here make themselves because they're "different." but also like the traditional matching tartan.
Early on I bought a bunch of solid color flashes but can't recall the last time I wore any solid color flashes.

I too have gone over to the traditional garter ties, but I do like/prefer the double flash, though I do also have a dk green looped pair now that I think of it
