I am sorry to say that I am not a big fan of NewYears Eve celebrations, and so I prefer to mark the event quietly at home. Also working the late-shift today.
But,I do have a tradition of an outdoor walk/hike on January 1st, and this will be a kilted-event! Happy New Year,Tom.

The new year will take her first look at me wearing a kilt.
It will yet again be a challange to keep my husky away from the tassels.

i.e.: HELP!!!
I am located in coastal/eastern North Carolina. I have a magnificent custom-fitted Tewksbury 8-yard box pleat Leatherneck tartan kilt that I wanted to debut for NYE this year.
As of yet, I've no sporran. This simply will not do.
I do have an acceptable belt or two that I could make work for an evening out, but with no sporran it's like... well, like shrimp without the grits. Just not even worth trying to pull off, even around here where nobody would really notice.
I am looking for, in this order:
1) Any kind soul within 3-4 hours' drive who would be willing to lend me any sort of sporran, semi-dress or nicer. Cash and/or collateral would be posted until return of said sporran.
2) Any damn place within 3-4 hours' drive (think Wilmington, Raleigh/Durham, Fayetteville or anywhere in that radius) where I could walk in and buy a sporran that is actually worth paying money for.
I realize this is very late notice, I realize that it's entirely my problem. I also realize that this seem a bit suspect, to say the least... but I do believe my longtime friend and brother Marine, Kid Cossack, will vouch for my honesty, integrity, and sincerity. He will also likely vouch for my ability to procrastinate.
That said... anyone have any ideas?
(P.S. - Franklin, NC is a good 7 hours' drive from here; no good for a round trip AND a night out drinking.)
You could try here they are in Durham NC, a quick google search and I got this as well showing several in places in the area

Oh and I will be wearing a kilt, if I brave the outdoors it will be my What Price Glory Gordon Highlander.

No special party plans this evening. We tend to stay home and watch the celebrations on TV. The custom in Germany is to set off fireworks at midnight. From the balcony of our house we can see at least 3 small towns nearby so it is quite a nice show.
I've been taking some leave this week so I'm not working today. I put on my Xmarksthescot box kilt this morning with cream hose and a white Irish Sweater. When we went on the Army Post around 11am I topped that with a light blue balmoral bonnet. I have a first edition X Marks the Scot pin for a kilt pin and Steve Ashtons cap badge version for my balmoral.
I ran into a fellow I know and we discussed kilts for a while. My new admin assistant has seen me kilted twice now. She says she wants a picture of me in my kilt to send to her mother.
After lunch, we stopped at a German Grocery store to pick up a few items we like on the local economy. While standing in line, a nice lady behind me asked if I was Scottish. I told her no, but my family came from Scotland to America long ago. We had a nice discussion about keeping up traditions. The conversation was all in German, but at the end she spoke a few words in english. I'll bet her English was much better than my German!
So it has been a good New Year's Eve so far.
Wishing all of you a safe and enjoyable evening and a Happy New Year!
Tom

Glad to hear everyone's kilted NYE plans are going along swimmingly. We're under a high-wind warning here (50-60 mph gusts at times), so this will be a brave test of my kilt-control skills. haha. I'm breaking out the big cable-knit sweater and adding extra ballast into the sporran for today's outings!

What better way to end a year AND start a new one than kilted. With the temps hovering at 5F I'll probably start off in my WPG MacKenzie and finish off the evening in my new SWK MacCrae. My wife and I stay at home for New Years and will celebrate by watching the festivities on the T.V., watching a good movie, and then calling it quits after midnight. We open our Christmas presents New Years Day because we go to visit the family in Chicago during Christmas. This is our time to celebrate. We wish everyone a happy and prosperous New Year!

I am really jealous. I can't even visit the WPG website anymore with my wallet within reach. Must...show...self...restraint...

Fun area, that...
Here, every Holiday is just as bad as the next. Regardless though, I hope to find time to swing by my mother's house and visit, if only for a few minutes. Luckily she lives in my patrol zone so that makes it somewhat easier!

The kilt is the traditional dress for Hogmanay in Scotland, and I'm sure there will be more kilts being worn tonight than at any other time of the year.
I would like to wish everyone a very Happy New Year.
Kind Regards,
David.
