We can have snow tires here; its just that it would be stupid to spend $100 or so per tire for something we would use maybe once every 2 years. Of course, if you travel to the mountains or up north, snow tires may be a good investment.

Here in Flagstaff,AZ are 7,000ft in town. Phoenix is nearly sea level and a few hours drive. We get to deal with desert dwellers trying to drive on ice packed roads. It's bad enough with some of the locals, but when in-experience meets rubber necking it's out right dangerous to be on the road at all.

I don't think I have seen panic in the supermarkets here and we have had several days when we have received 8-12' of snow (in hours).
It's kind of cute to picture the panic

Sigh - wonderful looking snow - though it really requires a wall with pillars for the gates - pile up the snow around and on top of a pillar, and a minature but fairly impressive Tyranosaurus can be achieved.
All it would take is some high pressure over Scandinavia, and we would have snow - but it never seems to happen these days.

I lived in Chattanooga, Tennessee for a year and then in Rome, Georgia for a year. I was astounded that, when the first snowflakes fell, everyone headed for the exits and went home, cowering there until the snow was gone.
The first winter there was an actual blizzard in Chattanooga. While felt comfortable driving, I was terrified of the other drivers who weren't used to the snow. So I got out my cross country skis and skied to a dinner party. A 4-wheel drive passed me on the road and all the occupants were leaning out the windows and cheering me on.

We live in fear of snowless winters up here....especially since we've got 7 or 8 hundred antsy sled dogs on their way to town for the weekend.

Hey Kevin
What with climate change proving to have a sense of humour, maybe someone should invest in some sledge wheels for the year when the snow never comes.
Just to really cheer me up our weather has been rain, rain and then rain, with lots more forecast for tomorrow and a minimum temperature on the positive side, but not very positive.
Sigh.
