Anyway those modern kilt things are most cerainly not worn by the locals and I most certainly have never seen one of those worn up here.As to the Semi trad that you have shown in the picture,I know of no locals that own one-----yet?
Jock you need to head down to Elgin sometime I am quite often seen wandering around the shops (when I have a free weekend) in my Uk original in black or my denim Union Kilt

Jock, the USA kilts semi-trad is hand made and made to measure and looks very much like a traditional Scottish kilt but it is eight yards of Polyviscose and no wool which makes it cheaper to buy.

Thanks Alex. Yes they do look very much like a traditional kilt and I am impressed and wiser. They do not seem to be as high around the bottom of the rib gage as a traditional kilt, which might make wearing a waistcoat and jacket a bit tricky(the dreaded gap thing) , but for the price it's got to be a thought for anyone to consider buying. I am unsure that I would want 8 yards of synthetic material wrapped around me though.

I'd like to wear my Utilikilt while traveling and switch to the family colors when I get there. Think I'll catch hell in that american invention?

You might catch "hell" in certain parts of some cities, but on the whole the Scots are far too polite to say anything. What they may be thinking is entirely another matter!

Well I sometimes wear my Utilikilt out and about here in Scotland, and never had any hassle, but when you get talking to Scots people do be prepared for them referring to the Utilikilt as a skirt rather than a kilt.

Wear what you like. As Jock says Scots generally are far too polite to pass comment and I am sure that kilt-wearing attracts more attention for you at home than you will ever get here.
