Regards,

That could go horribly wrong...
But yes, bow ties are good and knowing how to tie them is even better.

Duely noted. We are patient...
The two tartans work, and I think here the bow really compliments the red waistcoat.

Follow up : Wearing two different tartans with a kilt!
On Monday nights I attend my Scottish Country Dance class and I always attend wearing a kilt. One doesn't need to wear a kilt to enjoy SCD but the "polite turns" just aren't the same.
As I changed for class I decided to pin up the waist coat with a couple of tiny safety pins and traded my blazer for a black watch tartan kilt (and my Burns collection for my Pillings)
Here is a kilted version of the previous outfit

Two things to note, I straightened that bow tie before heading out the door and the white elastic band of the flashes' garter does not show through my wool socks (it is an effect of them reflecting the light of the flash)
So again I will pose the question
What do you think?
Cheers

I like it but then I'm probably prejudiced about the Lindsay tartan. It looks like a well put together outfit. Not too sure about the thin black hose however. It doesn't seem to matter whether it's a camera flash or just daylight - white garters or flesh shining through looks a bit unfinished.

I think it looks fine-- very much a "true Highlander" sort of look. If I may offer a fashion tip? Years ago I had all of the elastics on my garters changed from white to black...

I like the idea of being able to pin up the regular waistcoat for kilt use, rather than hemming it and never being able to wear it with trousers again.

My favorite trousers sit almost at the same point as my kilt

As I mentioned, they don't show up in real life. But based on my penchant for posting photos. Your idea sounds like a good one and simple to make.

Phil,
I promise you that the garter doesn't show, the hose are not thin but reasonable quality wool ones. Also they are navy and match both tartans well.
Cheers
Jamie

Dashing and smashing are both outfits. Muted enough not to strobe.
