Riding and bulding custom mortorcycles most of my life as a member of Hamsters USA. It is just unwise not to protect yourself from the other non-riders on the road..

Ok, call me crazy, but I love riding in a kilt! While I fully agree with St. Nick about the advisability of leathers, boots, helmets, gloves, grieves, pads, chain mail and what ever else your going to have to protect you from the road; there are times when you just want to go get a pint of milk. We all have done it, in shorts, jeans, dress slacks et al. The truth is unless you really armor up a pair of jeans is going to prevent the road rash no better than the pair of shorts or kilt.

I fortunately have a rather low bike so swinging my leg over the beast and "showing off" is not really a problem. I didn't wear kilts when I had higher beasts, but if I had you can always use the "kick through" rather than the "leg swing over". And if your not regimental who cares?

As to the wind blowing up your "dress"; for the most part when I am kilt riding it's around town, so I just tuck (sit on the front apron) and go!

    Cheers!ith:

Welcome aboard, been riding for years and kilted for about two never been able to bring myself to combine the two. I have ridden to events than changed or rode along with someone in a cage. I believe there is a group called the angry Scotsmen in Northern California that ride kilted you might try contacting them. Well good luck and ride safe.

Maybe you could clip some lead weights to the hem.

Not my cup-o-tea. I frequently ride in thick shorts in the summer, but I'd rather not leave my "goods" subject to pavement.

I've heard skin-grafts are not pleasant.

Welcome to XMarks! I would have suggested the Survival, but it seems you've already tried that.

I've been riding motor scooters and motorcycles since I was thirteen, before I was legally eligible that means, and I've only been hit once by a car. I was wearing good Levi's and they were shredded and ripped in the lower legs, where all my injuries were. I've tried to be very hard to hit since then, January 30, 1959, but I wouldn't ride in anything that didn't offer me some skin protection so shorts are out for me and that would probably automatically include a kilt. Besides, I had wind blow my map into my face one day; I'm afraid my instincts would reach for cover and add to my riding problems. Can you get iron kilts?

    Stephen
