Video of blast at Fukushima nuclear plant, no evidence of meltdown or severe radiation leaks.

I'll be very happy if what they are guessing is right.
That this was a hydrogen gas explosion outside of the containment vessel that just blew apart the exterior shell of the building around the containment vessel.

BBC reports that radioactivity levels are rising and the wind has shifted inland, rather than out to sea. It has also begun to rain, which will knock any radioactive particulate down to ground level. Not exactly good news.

Glad you're ok CDNSushi. Been away from the net last couple days.
I can pass on that the US Navy is ready and willing once we receive the call. It was passed out that the ships are loaded and in the area and the Seabees always "Can Do!" Got this from 2 admirals this weekend. If they ask I know more than one will be raising our hands when they ask.

Been away for several days, but I, too, immediately thought of CDNsushi when I heard about the quakes. Glad to hear you are well, and I,too, send my prayers to you and all Japan.

I know the USS Ronald Reagan is in the area now. In fact they had to move it due to a radioactive plume emanating from one of the damaged reactors.
We are now experiencing rolling blackouts in order to help the power company cope with the situation by reducing demand.
Also, even as far south as we are comparatively speaking, fairly long queues for gas, and it's being rationed to 20L per vehicle, and one 20L container of kerosene (for heating homes).
All sushi shops are closed for the foreseeable future, and other supplies are more or less fine, but there are some spikes in supply and availability.
If there's any opportunity for me to help out with relief operations, I can almost guarantee I'll go -- I'm keeping in touch with my contacts over at CRASH Japan, and if they need a contingent, I can probably assemble a fair-sized group to go within a day's notice.

Glad you're OK, CDN. I know someone who has friends right in the affected area and they're apparently all still healthy as well. But the disasters are piling up so fast that it seems like the next thing will be that Gojira (aka Godzilla) shows up.

CDNSushi, I'm very glad to hear that you're ok.
My husband is Japanese and his 2 sisters live in Tokyo. They felt the strong earthquake tremors and were scared, but they're alright.
It's horrifying, watching the news and seeing the unbelievable disaster. My heart goes out to the people of Japan.
