Perhaps in the case we have here, I might have been better off to say not enough thought went into the choice of sporran, or else one wouldn't buy a sporran with tassels!

Or one might get "the right sort" of tasseled sporran. Not that I've ever set out to get one that's "silent" -- I have some that definitely "drum" and it doesn't bother me. However, I've found that while the long braided tassels on Ferguson Britt sporrans swing in a way that wonderfully complements the swing of the kilt, they're very quiet. It seems to be the combination of the tanned deerhide bags and the soft elk tassels.
