I haven't seen the Pumpkin Orange color before, but they sure look good with that Caledonia kilt. Nice-looking outfit overall, too. Congrats.
I changed my signature. The old one was too ridiculous.

My go to hose are Lovat green, I have a pair of lovat blue which I have never worn but I will. My next kilt will be a weathered hue so will be looking for a beige or perhaps claret which will become first choice I think.

My favourite single-colour hose are mustard yellow, but being the wearer of an especially bright tartan (Macqueen) has led me to some more subdued choices. My most-worn hose are probably my lovat blue ones.

Richard, I agree. Normally, I would not wear black or red hose with the Black Stewart. Surprisingly, bottle and lovat green go well with this tartan. The only reason I like these Bowmore: the red, to my eye, is broken up by the checkered design on the cuff. If it were not so, I do think the solid red would be a bit much. Anyway, I guess it's just my take on things. As the saying goes: different strokes for different folks!

I'm not sure about any one particular colour hose. Speaking from the UK, I don't know if we're still wrapped with '1950s-ish' protocol regarding this. I have lovat green, dark green, black and cream.

I seem to lean toward bottle green or black, although I see some reds in my future!

Blimey Frank, which part of the UK are you from?

I always thought that Inverness-shire was the last place in the Universe------well OK, the UK------ that took to new ideas such as kilt hose colours, it seems that I am wrong-------again.

Anyway, whatever colour hose you have, welcome to the website.

To give credit where credit is due, I should say that I got those from Skye Highland Outfitters. Those are great hose for sure! I don't wear them as much as I should; they mostly sit in a box.

Just a mea culpa about my odd obsession with hose colours: thing is, I'm an artist by profession, and it's one of those jobs that you can't leave at the office when you go home! I'll stop and look for a minute when I see a bright blue car parked next to an orange one, or see a vibrant green tree in front of a purple wall, or see somebody wearing a certain colour combination that has an arresting visual effect. In other words, we live in a world full of visual phenomena and we can't switch our awareness of it on and off like a lightbulb. So when I go to a Highland Games I'm constantly taking note of every colour combination being worn around me, and it would be quite impossible to not do so!

As an academically trained (in the "Old Masters" style) artist myself, I know exactly what you mean, Richard and I couldn't agree more with your obsession with hose colours - for you are not alone. I have always been fascinated by colour theory, colour relationships, aesthetics, the Elements of Art and the Principles of Art. There is a wonderful correlation between the fine art world and that of Highland dress, specifically in regards to hose colour as it relates to tartan and tweed.

    Cheers,
