I know that Prince Charles is not always held in high regard but I have seen him wearing plain tweed (I Think) kilts on photo shoots at Balmoral and I must say I thought they looked fantastic. I would happly wear one if I could get the colour I liked. Probalbly a blue/green tweed.

    tweed

I'm wi' you, Daneel -- the tweed kilts look brilliant! Tweed, Saffron and Hodden Grey (which looks a lot like a tweed) are the only "one-colour" kilts I would wear!

The Toronto Scottish is a "sister regiment" to the Cockney Jocks of the LS, and you can see the Hodden Grey kilt on this web page:

    Cheers!

Ain't THAT the truth? They look classy AND cool at the same time. I can't picture them with a t-shirt, but semi-formal to formal dress would be incredible. I'll bet even Graham would like those?

If I can find the material, I'm going to give it a "go". A nice 8-yarder would do!

I've got a Gullane Tweed casual kilt from Scottish Lion. It's a cool compromise between tartan and plain. Its a fairly dark blue with brown stripes running through it. Too bad it's a lightweight material, I'm sure I'd wear it a lot more if it were an eight yard 13oz kilt. Still in all, it's a good option for an indoor event that requires something more than a utilikilt but less than the full regalia.

Sounds nice, if it's good enough for Prince Charles then it will do for me!

Yah Graham... if I remember right, the thread that had your post about it being "not for you"... you mentioned that there might be a solid in a more "traditional" that's okay. If I remember right, it had something to do with the lay and sway (as I like to call it).

This seems to be right down your alley as far as solids!

I'm gone for the weekend on a gig, but when I get back next week, I'm going to hit the fabric sources and get the thing done. It will be my "formal" look along with my trews.

I have a kilt suit in bottle-green 'Auld Reekie' tweed from "TFCK" which is fantastic to wear. Actually, I've worn the kilt without the jacket far more often than the two together, but that is because the suit is so darned warm, even in winter!

It might just have escaped some people's notice that the sponsors of this site, KiltStore.net, offer four plain-coloured tweed kilts which I have not (yet) seen but which look very good. Maybe, I'll get to see them when I visit their offices in two weeks time!

You could be right there Jimmy, I think if the kilt was an 8 yard with deep pleats, and in a tweed or other quality plain coloured wool, I believe I would wear it.
