A waistcoat question

Hi all my question is quite simple can a 5 button waistcoat from Saxon wear be worn with the kilt without needing alterations and can a kilt waistcoat be worn with pants?

Whilst a kilt cut waistcoat will probably be too short for wear with jeans/ trousers as there will be an unsightly gap between your garments, it is possible you can get away with a Saxon cut waistcoat with a kilt, but it may hang too low and interfere with your sporran.

Dependant upon your upper body shape/length you may be able to pick a waist coat you can wear with both without it looking weird. Of course if you have a kilt with mid or lower rise this will be much easier.

I only have Saxon waistcoats to wear with my kilt. They all have pointed bottoms, which does require me to lower the sporran, but only about an inch or so, nothing that creates a striking visual. By that logic, a flat bottom waistcoat would not require adjustment? It would seem so, but I personally could not say.
How does it look? I like it, but, I will concede that this particular nuance is subjective.

My many waist coats seem to be made pretty much the same. There is no obvious difference in the ways kilt versions and Saxon versions are cut. Although I haven't measured them to be sure. You should be safe wearing what may be considered one sort, when the rest of your attire might be consider a second sort.

I beg you, please, never wear a waistcoat with jeans, Dockers and such unless it is long enough to overlap properly. The wad of shirt that shows between waistcoat and jeans is an abomination.

As a matter of necessity for a time I only had a 7 button tweed waistcoat with pointy ends. It went well with the kilt I was wearing at that time. At the height I wear my sporran it did not interfere with it. I think this is a matter of body shape, and that some people can wear these waistcoats without any real adjustment.

Piobair has a good point on length of vest and height of kilt. I don't think those of us with kilts that are made to touch our bottom rib will have a problem.

Simple answer: It depends on the particular waistcoat and how it fits with how you were your kilt.

I have some saxon waistcoats that work with my kilts and others that do not.

Do you have a photo of you wearing the waistcoat in question?
