NICE WORK DAVID.. I think I am going to go dear hunting again this year! I have some drying braces for rabbits and coon that I might put to use now also. Hmm what about possum sporrans.. I dont think possum is good for much else.... quote:
Possums might be a good choice. You don't even have to shoot one. They are readily available along most rural roads in the southern USA. You just have to pick a fresh one. For those in the southwest, They might try armadillos. They are plentiful along the roads down there. It might be interesting having an armored sporran.

Yes, I am also VERY impressed with the workmanship of David and his friend! Nice effort!!
In the first image he posted, Hammish has also suppied a good pic of one of my favorite tartans: the Kinloch Anderson Corp. Nice combo, sporran and kilt. Incidentally, if anyone is interested, the KA tartans are noticeably softer to the touch as compared to the regular clan tartans. Excellent quality throughout. I have a trad kilt in the 8 yard KA Corp and just ordered another in their Hunting tartan.
Now I'll have to consider a Freelander Sporran to go with them. As always, I am very impressed with the degree of talent displayed on this board.

Hi David,
I removed the "D" ring hanger and have fed the strap (please don't call them "Sporran Belts", Guys!!) through the 'slot' previously occupied by it. Should I ever decide to wear a sporran chain with it, which I doubt as the sporran is gorgeously informal, I'll simply refit the "D" ring hanger!
By the way, another 'plus' for me as provided by your sporran is the "clacking" of the horn 'tassels' as I walk. It is such a refreshing change from the dull "thump" of leather tassels!!

OK, since we are getting ridiculous with the animal head suggestions: I fancy an elephant's head sporran. One could have fun with the tusks when kilt-checks are about to occur, but the trunk could be an embarrassment

Roadkill sporrans. Hmmm. A racoon skin with a tire track across the middle?

Being from Texas, I was thinking about a Longhorn steer head . . .
I suppose you'd have to wear cowboy boots also!

Okay, found some room on my smouldering plastic for a black and a brown Freelander Sporran. Ordered them this morning.
Waiting to hear from kathyskilts about sporran straps. She offers them in three sizes but I can't find where the lengths or colors are given.
If anyone knows other good sources I'd appreciate knowing...don't think I wanna do the dog leash deal, just don't have the supplies in my small town.

My Freelander Originals sporran came in the post yesterday afternoon! It's absolutely amazing! The leather is soft and supple, yet rather strong. The bits of animal horn add such a unique and special look to the sporran. I know I'll be wearing this one quite a bit! It's a lovely piece of quality craftsmanship, that I'll appreciate for quite some time.
At first, the sporran looked small, compared to my basic black one. But, when I opened it up, I was amazed at all of the room there was inside of it. It can easily hold 2-3 times more than my normal sporran, and the opening is big enough I can get my whole hand in there, rather than grasping with my fingers like I have to do with my other sporran.
So, all in all, I like David's sporran much more than my sporran I bought from a Scottish dealer.
I give this sporran four stars out of four stars.

Good to hear Rufus, it makes me even more excited about the one I have on order.
I like carrying lots of "stuff" with me, but one has to be careful when running, a heavy sporran can be painful
Did you have any trouble getting a matching Strap?

Nawww, the tire tracks across the middle would look wierd. Now if they were in a straight line from tip of the tail across the tip of the nose, that would be a nice symetrical look. You just have to be more selective when "roadkill shopping"
