That sounds awesome. It also sounds important. Clan MacEx "Amici est familia ab lectio". I like it.

Matt, that is one sharp looking tartan... you're not gonna make us order one right away, will it actually become available?

i know i asked in the another thread, but i'll ask again - dana, could you (if for nothing else, to make me smile) try making the "X" crest (in both blue and b&w, if it's your fancy) with the latin words? i think that would be AMAZING (and, as Inaki said, very important-sounding).
and feckin sharp avatar, if i may also say.

Heck, ya'll are making me blush! Cyndi, do you really like it that much, or are you just trying to get out of designing one yourself? lol...
Let's sit on this for a bit to see if people still like the tartan after a few days. I can come up with some alternate designs, if people like, and Cyndi certainly can as well, if she wants. I literally was just playing around on the computer yesterday morning before the kids got up.
As to how soon we can get the tartan woven... if someone wanted a kilt I could theoretically call the mill with a thread count tomorrow morning and have the cloth in a couple of months. If people are wanting to get non woolen cloth woven, I know of a source, but the minumum run is 60 yards for cotton and something like 120 (if I remember right) for poly blends. So we are talking dinero there... and really, are there enough people who might want this tartan to justify an 0rder for 120 yards of poly-acrylic.
Anyway, I may let someone else handle that aspect of things. But if it's wool you want (either for a kilt, or just the cloth) let me know.
Still, let's sit on the design a bit. And I'd like to get Hank's input, since it is his site that we are naming this tartan for, after all.
Aye,
Matt

I'll cast my vote for the blue tartan also, like Hamish, I don't have a blue kilt, I like it, and I'd wear that tartan with pride!
well done Matt!
the big question (Hamish) is...what colour shirt would I wear with it?

No offense intended to Matt nor to the folks who's gone wild for Matt's design. But Matt's right, we don't need to go off half-cocked on this deal.
As good as Matt's design looks, it is the only example we've considered. Let's see if anyone else comes up with an alternative that might be even better. As Matt said, this could be a not inconsiderable investment to make it come to fruition.

I agree; I'd love to see some other designs. And Graham, if I may offer an opinion (though I am, of course, not half so agedly wise as Ham ;) ) I would say a white shirt or a gray shirt would be smashing.

I'm coming to this thread a bit late but I really like where Matt is going with that design. I would be proud to wear it as it stands now, but see the value in taking a little more time to refine it before we go through the trouble of having it manufactured and registered.
Not knowing how much of the cost of a kilt is in the tartan, what do some of these numbers translate into for what an actual kilt is likely to cost from some of our more prominent kilt makers on here?
