I'll confess that I've been in discussions with Robert at R-kilt over the beautiful soft, black, leather mini-kilt he has for sale.
Daughter's birthday.
Braveheart and Rob Roy would have been quite different movies. Oh, well.

Their question basically comes down to would a guy wear a mini-kilt?
You can't possibly be serious.

Someone mentioned receiving a 20" drop kilt in error - but has gotten used to it. I'm currently wearing a 20" drop SK Hiking Kilt, and often use it about the house. I wouldn't call it a mini though. It feels OK, with the waistband at my navel, the hem falls exactly at the top of the knee - not really cringe-worthy. If it were in a heavier material I'd most likely wear it outdoors. All my others are around 22" to 23" drop. But then, I'm not a sixfooter.
A man's knobbly knee is not always a pretty sight, but seems to work well peeping from beneath a kilt. It's the point at which the leg bends, so it makes sense to keep it free. But with the leg exposed much higher there has to be a reason...and that is open to debate. Shorter swimshorts expose far more male leg, which you can get away with - though the image does tend to jarr a bit with over-80 year-olds in far too short shorts. But the same shortness in an unbifurcated garment leaves a confusing impression. The guy might just enjoy having less coverage...but still in a casual masculine way, like he might by wearing shorts (OK, maybe over casual for some tastes). Or he might prefer wearing skirts anyway. Personally, I feel that anyone should be able to wear whatever they like - it's entirely up to them.
My understanding of the definition of a kilt is that it has an apron at the front and pleats at the back, and fastens across from one side or the other, depending upon the gender of the wearer. If this is what a kilt is, then exactly the same arrangement of design in a shorter version must therefore still be a kilt...or, if you like, mini-kilt. But it isn't a traditional kilt.
I wouldn't wear a miniaturised version of a kilt, not because I wouldn't enjoy it - the extra freedom and airiness is probably great on a hot day - but because I have no desire to have half the town giggling at me.

...you wouldn't be able to if the image, as I should imagine, triggered a siezure.

Would you buy a mini-kilt?
I'm sure there are some guys that would wear a mini kilt..it's up to the individual to make that choice... I personally wouldn't wear a mini... but that's just my choice..
would I buy a mini kilt?? probably not...my wife doesn't wear mini skirts and my daughter is only 4.... even if she was older I'd lock her into her room for wanting to wear a mini

There are somethings in life that one must not imagine.... Me in a mini-kilt is one !!! Now Mrs. Splash is another, entirely different story!
And F-H.C.A.G., the photo you shared here is what convinced my wife that a mini-kilt was OK. So, you have my eternal thanks!
"A veteran, whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve, is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to "The United States of America", for an amount of "up to and including my life." That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country who no longer understand it." anon

Well, I agree with others that some of this is, to each his own - though probably only in certain circumstances! Minis or half minis may be all right for some men in public, probably the young, hot males of the species and for women. Not for me.

Like everyone here has said, a kilt is a kilt and a mans garment, a mini is a kilt skirt and looks great on women. My wife has one (a hiphugger mini in Gordon and is about to get a camo mini hiphugger soon.

I totally agree mini-kilts are for ladies only.
