My Xmarks Tartan just arrived and I have to say that the photos, no matter how good they have been, do not do it justice. My compliments to the design and production team on this one.
Certainly, there are a few nasty sections along the selvedge but I'll just be hemming the material with the blind hem attachment on the machine.
I've been kind of wavering about whether or not I'll be able to do this but handling the material has given me a new boost of confidence.

Along with the kilt from Kathy lare, she also made me a fly plaid from the extra material.

I agree. It's a great looking tartan!
This will a first for me on two counts...first knife pleat and first time working with 16 oz. wool. I must say that it is a pleasure to work with. Everything is so dependably symmetrical! Lining up the stripes is a breeze compared to lesser fabrics I've used.
And the aroma generated while pressing! Wow, I'd have to say that it's delightful.
All in all, working with wool is a lot more pleasant than I realized.

I just finished the pleats! 20 pleats altogether in this 5-yarder, pleated to the no stripe. I haven't finished the aprons or the bindings yet, and pardon the lack of pressing.
The challenge: Who can see something a bit odd in the photos????

It appears to have been sewn by a lefty. Or was there another reason for the reversal.

I'm right-handed, but as I developed my box-pleating technique I always approached my pleat-sewing with the pleat edge facing right. I naturally turned this one the same way, laying on the table with the waist towards me so I didn't have the entire kilt in my lap.. The only adjustment to the usual construction is that the reverse pleat is now on the left side of the over apron rather than on the right side of the under apron. So far it seems to work fine.
Also, I've often been curious about how much easier it would be to slide into a car seat with the pleats turned this way...regular pleats tend to open up as I get into the car.
Of course, in the UK this isn't a problem...
A scientifically controlled test will certainly follow, fully documented here for the illumination of the rabble.

Alan's pointed out the lefty nature, and I spotted that the twill line diagonal is reversed - so the whole kilt is left handed?
Best regards
