Fair enough, ChromeScholar, but many times there has been a new member asking for a traditional kiltmaker and someone is also quick to refer them to SWK or FC with the comment "it's the same thing only $80".
People aren't pointing any differences out of snobbery they are pointing out because there is a difference. Kilts made from denim are different than kilts made in arcylic, kilts in acrylic are different than kilts made out of Poly/viscose, kilts made out of polyviscose are different than kilts made out of wool. The differences include feel, hang, and ease of construction to name only a few. I am sure some materials are easier to make with a machine rather than by hand where as some are machine washable (huge bonus) where as others are not. Pointing out a difference is not bashing the other product, or promoting your own favourite, it is just pointing out the specs of a kilt so that potential consumers know they are getting exactly what they want.
My original post was more of a caveat to new members that while SWK are great kilts, they are different than a custom made heavy wool kilt. I would hate to have anyone think that traditional kiltmakers are ripping them off by charging what they are charging, while others are offing a true price ($50-$130) for the exact same product.
No one here has knocked SWK in anyway. They provide exactly what they say and they do it with a level of customer service which should be comended. I would suspect that stillwater has done a huge task of getting more and more people in kilts. You can't seem to go wrong with a Stillwater, especially for the steal that people get them for. I know of several people that have ordered SWK while they wait for a custom made kilt to be complete. Hey, what better way to deal with the jones than to order a kilt that arrives in lightning speed
By the by, if you think this place has any level of snobbery, try and join a Caledonian society or even a few of the clan societies. You almost need a blood test and a record of your family back to the start of the planet (sorry we don't accept anyone from that branch of ammeoba). Nobody has gotten offended here, so stick around. You have a lot of good points.

You can add me to the list of people who love SWK!!!!!! I love my Lochcarron kilt but can hardly afford to buy another-------I wear my SWK just as often and love it as well, if I was rap star rich I would probably only buy traditional wool kilts custom fitted but I am not rich and am sincerely happy that I can have as many kilts (quality kilts) as I like thanks to SWK!!!!!!!

Can I just say this:
I e-mail Jerry about possibly ordering a new kilt and I got a response in SEVEN MINUTES. Not only is his shipping unreal, but his customer service is impeccable.
I love this company.

I'd like to share an amusing anecdote. I wore my Black Watch Stillwater Heavyweight to the Tucson Highland Games. While there, I stopped at the booth for the Celtic Craft Center, to discuss the possibility of getting a MacDougall tank made. The guy, referring to my kilt, said, "That's a really nice kilt, for an American-made model...."

A compliment hidden in condescension, or the other way around? He couldn't have just said, "Nice Kilt".
