Been longhaired most of the time since 2001... From 1991-2001, I was rocking the mullet. Finally, in early 2001, I decided to grow it out. Last time I had a serious haircut was in 2004. Didn't want it, but got it anyway. I recently trimmed a few inches off, but still have a 'tail... That said, I do have some MPB appearing, so I may have to shave my head sometime in the future. Will definitely be a drastic change, if that happens. It's not visible when I've just washed/dried the hair, but it begins to show about 4 days after.

In jr high this one guy, he was Pueblo, had hair like down to his knees: front and back. His wife had the same length and black hair. Infact they had pretty much the same body shape and everybody was always saying you couldn't tell them apart from the back. As far as I know, they're still the same, but they probably hav longer hair, te he, and their kids have long hair too.
I'm Indian, but not full blood. Although connected to my tribe and family who lived within the Nation, I was raised in another state. There are cultural and religious beliefs behind uncut long hair in my tribe, as with most tribes.
My father, who is not Indian, had definite ideas about long hair, so I was never allowed to have long hair. Since I grew up with shorn hair, it didn't occur to me to grow it out until grad school.
Unfortunately, I inherited my non-Indian Dad's hair, not my mother's. I should have seen that coming, I guess, as I had blonde hair when I was a kid.
When it finally grew out, to my horror I found that I had curls below the hair tie on my pony tail. It wasn't just curly, it that was reminiscent of Shirley Temple. Certainly not the look I was going for! I'm not that conservative, but those curls really worked on my sense of masculinity!
However, I worked for a tribe that summer and the ladies loved my hair. I suspect that they envied me the curls, more than anything else, though. I guess we all want what we don't have. I certainly envied their straight hair.
Although I liked wearing my hair long, I finally cut it off. I rationalized that I'd have to do it to get a job anyway. Besides, I started getting stopped by store security all the time, which was a hassle.
Now that I live in SF, I'm thinking about growing it out again. Companies aren't as conservative here about things like hair length.
Besides, it looks like it could do double duty at powwows and highland games. And they have those flat irons now...

Have had long hair for a long time...always fun to let ladies play in it and braid it to their fancy...

The reasoning why I had long hair back in school, now my g/f says she would kill me if I cut it off again.

Just like the baboons do, just like the baboons. They're picking for bugs in the king baboon's hair.

Thank you for sharing this. I am not blood related to any of the American tribes, but for part of my youth, I grew up with Navajo, Zuni, and Pueblo, then later apache. I almost married a Navajo gf but was a little bit too young. It's all part of my mixed up wishy washy culture. , Hope you grow your hair, makes you strong.
It sounds like you are Dine', (I guess that's how you write it with these keyboards) you didn't really say. Anyway, that's what I mean by Navajo, I just couldn't figure out how to write Dine' with the standard keyboard.

Somebody jealous cause he can't get the girls to play with his hair maybe
Yes I used to laugh and think the same thing though but could also laugh when some guy would get mad cause I was getting more attention from their girl friend than he was.

Getting back to the long haired kilted freak thing, do any of you guys use anything other than the regular hair tie things for your ponytails when kilted? Like a silver celtic knot hair clasp thing.
