My congratulations to you both! I also second the point that I don't think it's necessary for the whole wedding party to be kilted.

Thanks for all of your kind words and suggestions. The men and women of this forum truly are a cut above the rest!
Has anyone got any other rental ideas besides Matt Newsome?

Congratulations!
I would say buy the package. I wanted to wear kilts (the groomsmen and I) to my wedding a few years back, but went with tuxs because the groomsmen were not in a finacial position to rent their gear. Looking back now I wish I had gone ahead and ordered myself the kilt and jacket, etc that I wanted. After all it was my wedding and if you can't splurge for your wedding when can you. It's that one time you really want to look as good as you possibly can. Besides, there are some good deals to be had out there right now.
Let the grromsmen get a SWK on their own and rent the jackets from your local, or rent the whole package from your local shop. My local shop is $175 cdn to rent the full kit (you buy the hose). Not bad in the long run given the cost of bridemaids dresses that the women usually have to buy.
Just my 2 cents based on my experience.

I just got married in Sept and we were all kilted. I own an SWK heavyweight but decided on renting so that all of the wedding party would match. Better for pics. I really wish looking back that I would have stepped up and bought the tank have wanted for years, and had the groomsmen rent. I went through the same decisions that you are. I rented so that we can save a little money. With all of the money that went out I really, really, really wish I would have just bought the dame thing.
But on the renting note. We had nothing but wonderful service and pricing from Scotland Yard http://www.scotyard.com I have rented just jackets from them as well. They even swapped out 2 of my groomsmen kilts for the "right" size 2 days before the wedding.
Good Luck, Don't let the planning kill you. Just some friendly advise.

I have not done anything with them, but this is the closest place that I know of; http://www.scotlandforever.net/rental.html
Order of the Dandelion, The Houston Area Kilt Society, Bald Rabble in Kilts, Kilted Texas Rabble Rousers, The Flatcap Confederation, Kilted Playtron Group.

This seems the perfect occasion to once again point out the Uniformalwearhouse.
http://www.uniformalwearhouse.com
Look at their plain black vests. http://www.uniformalwearhouse.com/apages/servests1.html
Their Black, full-back service vest ($17.95) can be spruced up with pewter celtic buttons off of ebay. Also, look at Unformalwearhouse's dress shirts at $11
(http://www.uniformalwearhouse.com/ap...rts_index.html)
and cuff link/studs sets..$4
http://www.uniformalwearhouse.com/ap...edojewel1.html
solid solor satin (not glossy) bow ties...$2
http://www.uniformalwearhouse.com/ap...cces50col.html
And you've got something. Total cost for the groomsmen, assuming they have black lace-up dress shoes? See below
Stillwater Standard kilt $85
Stillwaters black kilt belt $21
black vest, uniformalwearhouse $18
formal white shirt, lay down or wing collar $11
studs and cufflinks $4
solid color bow tie $2
budget kilt hose, Stillwater $12
Stillwater flashes $6
Frugal Corner semi-dress sporran $40
TOTAL, for a very "budget" but still very nice looking package that nobody but *Serious* kilt police will ever notice is not the $600 getup.... $200, $220 if you throw in kilt pins.
for the groom, swop out the service vest for a single button Eton jacket in black with the backless three button service vest and you have a very nice, darned good-looking kilt ensemble for about $40 more than that.

One thing is for sure....Dude (hopefully) you only get married once. ONCE...ever.
If you simply don't have $250 to spend on your kit, then you don't have it and what REALLY is going to count on that day is not what you wear, but the people you share the day with. That said, if you can cough up the money, HANG THE EXPENSE, and buy the flippin' tank and rent the bluidy Prince Charlie. There are days to pinch pennies and days NOT to pinch pennies. Get matching tartan ties and/or bow ties/cummerbunds for the groomsmen and enjoy the day..
BTW, your bride is a looker!

Thank you for all of the excellent advice and the compliment. I have pretty much made up my mind to wear the kilt. I have not made up my mind whether to rent or buy, though. But you all have brought up excellent points and have made my job much easier.
Kelley and I thank you all.

We had a kilted wedding last summer (and as a gay wedding that meant 2 grooms, 2 best men, etc.). I had the skills (and the stupidity... I mean ambitiousness) to make all the kilts myself (wool blend fabric, not a true tartan, but very beautiful). We (the grooms) had jackets and vests made to measure. For the groomsmen, we bought them white tux shirts, and I went to several local thrift stores, and came up with a vest for each of them and cuff links and bow ties for less than $50. It wasn't a completely formal wedding, but we were able to do it kilted and on our budget. If you want to see the pics: www.chrisnjim.com. if you have any other questions, pm me.
And remember.... it is the first day of your wonderful new life together. Congrats.
Cheers
Chris
