To paraphrase Dread, from what little I've seen of you, I knew you'd get plenty of advice.
As for me, you can bet that I'd recommend the Leatherneck tartan. But I'm sure that whatever you choose, it'll be stunning on you.

Hey, Dirka Skene. Isn't it nice to have all these men, dressing you? ;)

If you feel like knocking out a tartan mini-kilt yourself (it's not that hard) you could pick up some of the Lindsay tartan wool/poly blend from Fraser and Kirkbright. I've made three of these (one more to go) for X-Marks Ladies (and friends) and while I'm not sure if the blended reds/blues are what you're looking for, I must say that the tartan is very handsome.
I pleated the F-H.C.A.G.'s kilt to show a lot of green in the back to set off her beautiful red hair, but Girlfriend Jamie's and Lovable Lora's skirts are pleated "to the stripe" (there's a dark pair of blue stripes in the red part of the tartan). Anyway, here's a look at the tartan and the F-H.C.A.G.'s skirt..

You sew your own mini-kilt? Ha-ha-ha?
Did you see O'Neil's fantastic step by step photos of the mini that he made for Red Lioness? That was one great tutorial...you should look it up.

I have panic attacks when I look at sewing machines. I can sew on a button, that's it.
I make up for my lack of sewing expertise with cooking. But, I can't cook a mini-kilt.

Hmmm... Based on what you were saying, Sport Kilt's mini in the Anderson tartan would be right up your alley. It has a lot of colors making it very versital.

My dear, the pathway to freedom lies beyond the door of fear.
*cough*
Seriously, though...if you can thread the needle of a sewing machine, you can make a machine-sewn mini-kilt. There's a world of difference between hand-sewing an 8 yard kilt, and knocking out a 3 yard, ten pleat, close-with-velcro miniskirt.

I agree with Alan, that's me in the E-kilt pictured above next to the very tall (let's see ..) Flame-haired, blood-thirsty, Celtic, amazon Goddess. Get beyond your fears and you'd be amazed at how much fun it is when it starts coming together. B'sides you have me beat, I can't sew a button (or straps for that matter ....)
Chris has me carckin' up ...
