yeah I'm not sure on the mocs either...but you'd have to go for something kinda rustic. Maybe those handmade shoes that Graham has...but in black.
What did confederate soldiers wear on their feet anyway?

Sometimes, nothing. Frequently, whatever they could scrounge.

I like the mocs, I think the whole thing works. Of course when the gentleman's carrying a carbine, I'm not going to tell him that he looks like Dale Evans. I liked both shirt/kilt combos. It may have been the boots that did in Panache's picture for me.

I'll have to get my hats out and try some serial chapeausage...

I love the mocs. I'm actually trying to build a pair for myself. I think they look good. (Then again, we all know what an odd one I am...)

I most often wear a ballcap with my (admittedly Sport)kilt. I don't like the look of the traditional Scottish Headgear, but I would like something a bit less casual sometimes. I have several boonies, which I've seen in pics on the site, but that seems even more casual to me. I don't generally wear the Aussie style hat, but I might try it out.

Hard pressed to find a better hat for kilt wear than a Tilley!

Of course your run of the mill beret ain't bad in colder times either:

Laurel & Hardy tried it when they visited Scotland in 1947. Not sure I would go along with the look though -

A tam also looks good, just use a plain coloured one (pick one of the colours in your kilt). But if you do get a tam, do not, under any circumstances wear a tartan one with your kilt. The Kilt police will immediately haul you off in irons, and torture you by unwravelling your hose!
