I've had the material for an X kilt for several months now. I just haven't gotten around to getting one of our bigger sewing machines working. The only one in service right now is my wife's little portable. (I mean you can hold it in your hand kind of portable) and I don't think it is heavy enough to do the fabric I have.

    I've made 5:

    2 for my son
    1 for Cloves
1 for my husband (the infamous Pink Panache)
1 for myself (technically a skirt, not a kilt, although made using the x-kilt instructions, before there were x-skirt instructions-Thanks Alan!)

    Be well,

I've made 1.5 but am look at making Rebecca's pink and black "tartan" kilt like the blood-thirsty, celtic-haired, flame-goddess made her X/XMTS kilt (reversal of colors).
Additionally I printed out the XK instructions for my friend Sean so he can make himself one or several.

    Yes, I have

    OK, I'll admit it....

Before I knew any better, I made a 7+ yard knife pleated cotton canvas kilt. No topstitching, no steeking, not right at all. The khaki colored canvas is so heavy it will stand up by itself. Really needed Barb's book but I winged it instead. I know, a frugal Scotman gets what he bargained for.

I am working on a woodland camo right now. I just need to get motivated to finish it. After that, it's on to a desert digital camo knockabout.

I would LOVE to make a kilt!

The tools exist (needles, threads, scissors, pins, an illuminated magnifying device, sewing machine, steam iron, Barb's fabulous yet mystifying book, Alan's X-Kilt instructions, etc.) but the talent and ability do not! I have neither mathematical nor engineering skills, both of which I believe to be a 'must', and my lack of patience might also be a stumbling block!

One of life's wonderful experiences that is passing me by!

    No excuses

Oh Come on now Hamish, if I can do it ...
AND ... you can get friends or fiends to help (I checked Barb's book and Alan's Xstructions - nowhere do either state you must do this by yourself).

    Added PLUS !
When somebody asks who made your kilt you get to reply: "I did !"

    CT - reason enough

Kind of you to have such faith, Cameron, but honestly, numbers mean nothing to me at all! Also, I am not aware that I have friends, or know of fiends, who are able to sew. They mostly know of my wishes in this connection but no-one has offered to aid or abet !!
