My point exactly - back in post 38. Wardrobes are made narrower these days. Even with built-in or walk-in wardrobes, the hanging bar is installed to accommodate suits and trousers and jackets and skirts - not kilts.
That is why I fold in half and then half again.

I just install my own hanging bars . . . where I want them!

Geoff,
I leave mine in thirds with the ends past the hanger ends. I do put the hanging kilt inside a WalMarche' $2 garment bag made for suits. So when the kilt is hanging in the closet its inside the wider garment bag. My closet has the hanger bar placed so its wide enough to accept the kilt in a garment bag without bending the garment bag back. So, for me, no problem.

I currently use the 4 clip hangers offered by Nick at Scotweb - they have worked brilliantly! I have always hung my kilts and I do not fold them in any fashion. I simply put them together as if I was wearing them, with each strap affixed through the third hole, then I take the kilt pins off, store them separately, and hang each kilt together in my wardrobe. I use cedar hangers in order to keep my heavily woolen, Highland attire free of moths and other pests. Naturally, my wardrobe is a cool, dark area far away from any possible sunlight. It's probably the cleanest room in my house!

Somewhere I read that moths wouldn't attack wool kept in the light (not sunlight).

I hang my longer Scotweb hangers at a slight angle instead of directly crosswise. Takes up a little bit more space in the closet but not really that much, maybe an inch or two. No problems.

I just use the hanging loops supplied on the kilt and hook them onto a wooden hanger with notches in it. The one kilt that did not come with hanging loops, I made a couple up from an old football lace and sewed them in. It only took a few minutes. You do have to buckle up the kilt for them to work though! Plastic hangers I found tend to bend in the middle if the kilt is hanging from the ends or else the hook pulls out. Steve's solution using 2 hangers is ingenious though, I never thought of that.

If you are going to do it, do it in a kilt!
