No wonder we can disagree amicably as well as agree on many things. We are distantly related!
I to have family ties to Chattan, MacPherson, and Davidson. Looks like there is more truth than we'd think in the Theory of 6 Degrees From Kevin Bacon.

And don't forget those ties to Mackintosh (through Chattan)!

There are times I think everyone has some connection to Clan Chattan. That must have been a mighty Confederation at one time.

Well, who wears kilts more than pipe bands?
Yes, Bob, but pipe bands wear Uniforms - the rest of us, hopefully, do not! Much as I admire pipers and pipe bands, I certainly do not wish to copy their uniforms - especially when going about my daily business.

Darn, I hate it when somebody spoils a good generality by putting it in a practicable context.

The point stands. Hamish has every right to dislike white socks. That does not mean anyone else has to.

If I wear white socks they turn yellow for some reason after a few hours. Yucky. Noticeably yellow. Buttery.

I'm getting the impression that, once you've been out walking for a few hours, everybody around you turns yellow....and buttery.
