Hmmm
I'd say one of the following:
Tartan: Robertson Hunting Modern
Weight:16oz
Yardage:8
Customization: Pleated to red stripe, two buckles on the left, one on the right.
Why:Holds the front apron in place better without pulling.
Tartan: Clergy Green Ancient (to match the off colored scarf I have - beautiful!)
Weight:16oz
Yardage:8
Customization: Pleated to green stripe, two buckles on the left, one on the right.
Why:Holds the front apron in place better without pulling.

Tartan: Maclachlan Ancient
Weight: 16oz
Yardage: 8-ish yds
Customization: Pleated to the sett, aside from that, nothing special.
Why: Family tartan, and I love the way it looks in the ancient colors.

Tartan: Cornish Hunting
Weight: 16oz or specially woven in military weight
Yardage:8 ish
Customization:hidden pocket in waistband of apron, for stuff I just cant afford to lose, and I love the sound of the pattern welded buckles so I would find someone to make some, standard 3. Box pleated to the stripe, two extra belt loops.
Why: just because

Dream kilt:
Tartan: Robertson Hunting
Weight 16 ounce 8 yards
Two straps
Knife-pleated to the red stripe
Made to measure by a friend
WAIT!!! I already have my dream kilt! A Wally Catanach original! I'll have to start dreaming again.
Perhaps an IOS to the sett? Or perhaps some of that Hudson's Bay tartan will come into my life--I have a peculiar attraction to that one.
I have been dreaming about lighter kilts these days, so perhaps my next project will be to sew the County Cavan I have into a five yarder or a box pleat for fall hiking. But somehow the dream is not as good when I do the sewing (laughing.)

My dream kilt is on order and it took me a loooong time to decide on it. I was in a great position in that it was paid for by others as a gift so I could go to town.
Tartan: Ancient Hunting Thomson
Weight 16 oz Strome
Yardage: 8..... probably more like 7 as I'm a 32" waist
Pleated: to sett
Why: I am a Thomson and out of the 7 or 8 Thomson tartans available, this was my favourite. I love the "hunting muted" but it appears to only come in 13oz.
I have no real intentions (yet) of buying another kilt but if I do it'll be either the aforementioned Thomson Hunting Muted, Duncan (mothers side) or Isle of Skye.

Yardage: 8+
Customization: Pleated to the sett, 2 straps with brass buckles, a reinforced area for the kilt pin.
Why: The Tartan is from my mothers side of the family

Beat you to it, albeit in weathered form, tartan woven by probably one of Scotlands best weavers D C Dalgliesh of Selkirk, it's one of my favourites,
