I had intended to say that the only clan I have association with is the USMC. Then I noticed others had posted similar traits. I hate not being the first.
While I have a paper trail showing me in the Clan Campbell, I never wanted to spend the money for a DNA test. Unless it is a paternity suit.

Up until yesterday, I was not a member of any clan association other than the Corps. Yesterday, I joined Clan Davidson Society USA.

I am a member of the O'Dochartaigh Clann Association. We also have a hereditary CHief who hails from Spain, and is a direct descendant of Cahir O'Dogherty (the last Irish Chief of the Inishowen Peninsula in Dhún na nGall. He died in 1608)
I also identify with the Lamont Clann in respect to my monther's family though I have not yet joined the association.

Clan Cunningham for me, although being just a new member I haven't really got too involved. As far as I can figure out, up here in Canada these sorts of things aren't big at all. For example, at our Highland Games this past summer there weren't any clan tents at all, just a few vendors. I'm looking forward to using the geneological services and will try to get more involved as I get more comfortable with my Scots heritage.

I would agree with RB51 that Canadian Scottish Festivals have been slow to incorporate Clans into Games.
I have seen a slow change in this position. Up until just the past two years I had never received an invitation to bring Clan Cunningham and our tent to any Canadian game. Now I receive them regularly.

I haven't joined my clan's society here in the US but as for your clan, well, I'm happy to say I support Molly MacPherson's Scottish Pub here in town. In fact, I'll be doing that tonight.

I was a member of the Clan Scott Association of Australia some years ago. I found that many of the members were convinced that they were the descendants of Gaelic speaking, claymore wielding, tartan clad Highlanders. The prized possessions of the organization were two stones taken from the grounds of............Drumlanrig Castle -

Not a member of any clan, as I'm Irish.
The Irish surely had clans but, for some reason, they did not take a strong hold like the Scottish clans. The English saw to that. If one does some history checking, look for the Penal Laws against the Irish, and you'll see why many traditional things got lost. The clan system did not bounce back like the Scottish ones. The clans and communal way of life were destroyed by these Penal Laws.
