Lassie Norquay, people claim tartan based on bloodline, territorial reality, or just a desire to wear it. If you and your spouse enjoy it, ENJOY it. Really. My sister and I grew up in the same house and have very different impressions of what our childhood was like. Someone in the Orkneys could
feel very Scottish, yet have siblings who feel VERY Norse, and websites are
typically written by those who are quite passionate about a subject. At
some point, for some people, the facts become irrelevant. There's no need to let them run your life or ruin your fun.
What cajunscot and I were attempting to say to you is that with the Sinclair
bloodlines crossing borders from Norway and Denmark to France to Scotland,
there is a very real possibility of a strong claim, if you want to justify.
For Mike Oettle: The Sinclair earls of Orkney were the Barons of Roslin. The
first Sinclair Baron of Roslin was dead in 1070. The first Sinclair Earl of Orkney was the 9th Baron of Roslin. The 1307 suppression of Templars
happened during his grandfather's life (7th baron). Hard to keep track of all
this this stuff at times, and I was told the same story, but I discovered, to no small amount of dismay, that I have descent from several lines of Norman
knights and baronial houses and read up a bit.

The pictures of the kilts are dark because the tartans are that color. I checked the color balance. If you double-click it should blow it up so you can see it brighter.
We just dont want to assume anything. I went to "The Scottish Register Of Tartans" and put in every maiden name I have come across and not once did Sinclair come up... The actual names I found were:
Campbell, Boyd, Muir, Gordon, Galway, Boyd, MacMillian, Brown, Douglas, Lamont, Wishart, Dundas, Robertson, Tundal, Sutherland, County
AND DISTRICTS were:
Caledonia, Stathsprey, Angus, Caithless, Inverness, Sutherland, Paisley

Aside from the shades, are the patterns the same? If so then they are the same tartan.
Here are THE SAME tartans again in darker shades.

Budge is a sept of Clan Sinclair.
May I ask your Uncle's name and which state he lived it? It sounds like he was active in Clan Sinclair USA.

I am back.. I had to help an elderly friend who had surgery and I stayed with her and her handicapped son for nearly a week and they had no internet. HEAVEN FORBID.....
Our Uncle Bill lived in Vancouver Washington. The Budge name is very active in the family tree due to a very fertile couple..lol Uncle Bill seemed pretty convinced that it was Clan Sinclair due to the fact that he had the Cap Badge and the Great Kilt made of wool in the Sinclair Ancient tartan.
