A few Free Masons at an event in Scotland are described as wearing kilts and "top hats." This is after six PM. Ximena thinks it looks odd.
It also stuck out in my mind back when I read the novels, but I had to look it up to make sure I remembered correctly.

I agree some looks can only be pulled off by certain people.

This is not quite the way we do things around here. We need a committee to determine which hat will become the Official XMTS hat so we all can have one. THEN we will only need one type of hat.
I think Steve said it concisely when he stated that this forum was for those who appreciate the kilt.
It seems to me that seeing how others wear the kilt, and with what, makes this forum more interesting. At it's best, this forum is a very positive support group but sometimes it's like watching seagulls squabble in McDonald's parking lot over a french fry.
The problem with an online war between the Traditionalists and the Non-Trads is that this is a virtual battlefield where the war can go on pointlessly forever. Soon boredom sets in and members drop out. Why can't we have a photo war where opponents post photos of what they think is appropriate kilt wear? No room for boredom there!
BTW Steve: Everything you were wearing looked fine except the sporran; a bit too traditional if you ask me.
Note: Hopefully I have provided something here that everyone can be offended by.
When in doubt, I don't agree with your opinion because it's wrong.

I once wrote that I thought that the only headwear that should be worn with a kilt are Balmorals or Glengarries. . Having seen the Photos, I take this back. Bring on the Photos, what we have seen fits.

The trick is in getting to know one another, don't you think?

Both our friends have different styles. MOR is more absolute, bear-bating...and I've come to love the style of his posts. Behind them is a keen sense of humor, just as with JSFMACLJR. They are very far from curmudgeons ("a bad-tempered, difficult, cantankerous person"); it was simply a misuse of the word.
Name-calling for good or badattempts to sum up someone in a single word. It is that which diminishes rather than the actual meaning of the epithet. So of course, the traidtionalist view is welcome and vital here, among all the other vital voices. Of course, tradition is not commandment.
