Ways to identify
I wish there was a way to identify fellow XMARKS members. I know that several of us in Va have attended the same highland games and celtic festivals. We have probably passed within touching distance and didn't know it. I guess wecould all order an XMARKS kilt pin or something, but the pin is small, and I don't want to spend the entire day looking at all the kilted guys legs. (Maybe my wife could do that?). Anyone have any ideas for something simple?

I was pushing the idea of a t-shirt a while back, but apparently there's some licensing issues involved; Hank only has limited rights to the "X Marks the Scot" name.
...that doesn't mean that you can't have one printed up for yourself, but they can't be sold to other members.

That's the problem; it's not Hank's call. The guy that actually owns the name has his own product line that uses the name as well, just without the ".com" part, and I believe he controls all marketing that involves the name. I don't recall the company right now, but one of the Mods might chime in with some clarification and post a link to the site?
Now, if you designed a shirt that doesn't infringe copyrights, but is unique enough to stand out and be recognized as a form of ID for us, that would work, but it kind of loses it's coolness factor (for me anyway) if it doesn't say something about XMarks - after all, we do want more people to come to the site!

I do have an idea, but it involves having a decent printer attached to your computer.
Some time ago, my step-daughter made some iron-on transfers with the computer, using a special printer paper. They weren't pro quality, but they did transfer. Now if someone was to develop a decent logo that would fit on a printer page, and made a file of it, then all we'd have to do is each of us get some of that special paper, share the design and print it out ourselves.
Maybe someone could isolate one of the logos on this page and blow it up to fit an 8½" x 11" page.
In fact, I think I'll try that. ;)

Here's the site.
...and here's the logo.

Since it's already commercially available, I don't think it'll work as an XMarks member identifier because someone could've gotten it elsewhere. I hoped he would respond to a market oppertunity, and produce a special run of ".com" shirts (lord knows he'd sell some), but nothing ever happened. Maybe nobody told him?
Anyway, I like my idea better, 'cause it actually says something about the site - "Kilts are not a costume"

This has me thinking. Here's the specifications I came up with- it would have to be inexpensive, go with the majority of kilt outfits and look good.
I should have some solid ideas in the next few days. I'll be using the KISS principle on this one.

Here's my first idea-a leather fob or tag that can be worn on the sporran, belt, or hung around the neck. Most leather retailers carry pre-cut shapes and kits.
Any ideas on a design?

What better ID than our very own Tartan!!!! but again, its expensive to make a kilt out of it than a t-shirt...
