other principles oppinoins
I showed this to my priciple and he bassiclly said "distraction from what?"
This is what i cant understand is that i wear my kilt to classes were it cold quite possiblly be a distraction yet i have not once been talked to about it. so why would this principle think that it was a distraction at a flippin dance even if it was a special formal dance. And the fact that the pricipal is scottish really ticks me off

My son, the kilted mohawk (you may remember him!) is planning, if he gets a kilt before then, to go to his high school principal to ask for permission to wear a kilt the last day of school. (he got sent home for going to the last day of middle school with a mohawk - a tradition with him - no color or spikes, just dark brown hair).
As the son of a Robertson (my wife), with Scot heritage, he is going respectfully to articulate the desire to "dress up" to his heritage.
Time will tell, of course. When the boys wore the wedding rentals to Church that Sunday, everyone noticed how special they acted too!
In the kilts, they were better behaved!
Shouldn't all kids be allowed to wear kilts in school, then?

It is interesting to see how much heat this generated. It would be great if we were alert to everything that goes on in American schools, and I say that as a Canadian.
I think it was meant as, young ladies need to wear "size appropriate clothing".
Let me explain, size appropriate clothing is clothing that fits like the manufacturer intended. Not two sizes too small, like the young ladies wear today, regardless of what size the girl is..... Nobody should have to see a tummy bareing top with a gut roll hanging out... Bad taste in clothing not a problem with the persons size..
My wife and I see someone like that and we just sa to our selves, "She/He needs better friends." Meaning that, that person needs friends that will tell them the truth about how they look.. Not lie an say "Oh you look great!"

That's an interesting perspective, a parallel to the Japanese saying, "the most dangerous thing in the world is stupid friends."
Maybe I've become too sensitive. Over the years I've learned not to comment on young girls clothing, heck, I've almost learned not to be caught looking. Ha.

People like that are generally anti-gun. More likely, he is looking at his letter opener to slash his wrists!

There is actually an official slang name for this...."muffin top".

They tend to be anti gun for everyone but themselves. You'd be surprised how many prominent antigun people have carry permits.;-)

Oh aye, I've heard that one before (I think I've said a time or two). Note to XMarks members: it's almost impossible to "muffin top" in a kilt worn at the waist.
Bryan...not that my dietary habits haven't permitted me to try...

And it was two different women, JFYI.
I believe in dressing modestly, regardless of size. But there is the esthetics of it as well. Ever seen the 300 pounders in harem costumes (which are period to Hollywood, not the Renaissance) at the ren fairs? <shudder>

It's the old "spandex" rule
Just because you can do something, doesn't mean you should do something.
Morbidly obese, large persons wearing spandex, for any reason, comes to mind.
