At first the Spouse was not happy with the kilt. Mother in Law loves the kilt and the confidence I show in public with it. Mother in Law gushed about it to Spouse. Spouse since insists that I wear the kilt. Mother in Law rocks.

Wow! I go to bed with the post count on about 50, and wake up with it pushing 100!
Still, you folk on the other side of the pond have been awake while I slumber, of course...
There have been some great postings, some real triumphs over adversity. Keep 'em coming!

All my immediate family is very supportive of me wearing and making kilts. (Both my mother and grandmother sew. I just found out that my grandmother has been bragging about my sewing prowess and showing photos of my first x-kilt to her bridge club!)
I just found out, though, that my father-in-law doesn't approve. The in-laws were visiting a few weeks ago, and while I was at work, he mentioned to my wife that he's "not really comfortable" with my kilt wearing. (This is more than a year past our wedding, where all the groomsmen, ushers, and I were kilted.) My wife replied that it's a good thing he doesn't get a say in how I dress because she likes it.
I sure picked a good one!

P.S. Although I know it's unwise to antagonize one's father-in-law, the above revelation sort of makes me want to wear my kilt more often around him!

I don't think I could resist, either. I might confront him about it - ask him why. But, that would probably drop your wife into it, so on second thoughts, no.

Hey guys, thanks for your kind words. Things are pretty even right now so I don't have much to complain of. The soon-to-be ex is actually a good father and mostly a good man (except for that kilt aversion and oh, for walking out...).
Anyway, not being a regular kilt wearer I can only offer the comments I've gotten for taking up highland dancing at the ripe age of _____ (over 40). My parents came to visit and got to see me and their grandaughter compete side by side (the girl whopped my ***). Mom made a few supporting comments but I could see that she thought I was a little too old. Meh. Maybe so, but it's an awesome form of exercise!
I don't see why any woman in her right mind could not like a man in a kilt. You all look great!

At first my wife did not like me wearing the kilt, but now she accepts the fact and even asks,"Which one will you wear tonight when we go.....". During Christmas break last year while visiting friends and family in Chicago I ran into my ex and she said,"Wow I didn't know you were wearing kilts now, nice look." Go figure!

NO worries here about running into the ex-wife, except maybe in the afterlife, and I doubt we will both be going the same direction on that part of the train of life.
Sounds like you got a good one---keep her safe and happy---and that the ex might have at least a few regrets, after seeing you in a kilt. Oh well.

On the contrary its unwise to NOT antagonize ones father in law I mean you wouldn't want him to think your a little skirt wearing pansy boy who cant stand up to no-one and take care of his daughter would you
