56 inches is double width Galician. Single width is usually 28-29 inches wide.
Gosh, now you guys have me excited to go home as I should expect mine to arrive today as well, and if not then hopefully Friday. If I have a package waiting for me when I get home I will have to pour a wee dram of single malt before opening it and then will be able to double my pleasure of the moment.

Just got mine!!! FANTASTIC STUFF!! Mines DW, and I got 4 yards, so at least one box pleat will go into works in December after I finish up these sporran orders. Thoughts-I have enough to make an 8 yard tank, but the weight of this material is soo much, I just couldn't imagine wearing a full 8 yard kilt out of this stuff and be comfortable (I guess after ripping and clipping the weight would come down a bit, but MAN is it heavy!)

Aaaarrrrggghhh!!! Mine did not come either, another case of premature expectation. Still opened the scotch anyway, just poured a bigger glass full for my misery.

On the front porch when I got home. I had ordered 4 meters twice and emailed Bill after the fact and asked if he could just send it as 8 meters and he did. I figure that might end up being the most versatile option, whatever I decide to do with this. Heavy box!
Nice material. It's shaded a little different from my House of Edgar reg wgt with a slightly different feel but obviously quality tartan. Don't think I'll be doing anything soon with it but what deal!
Thanks again, Josh for giving us the high sign on this one.

My friend got the 8 meters he ordered yesterday. I guess I'm going to be busy this spring making his kilt first...still have to decide what I'm doing with the remainder...4 yard box, 8 yard tank, or greatkilt...hmmmmm?? What will it be?

Well, guess what I did this Thanksgiving.

I couldn't keep my hands off the fabric and now It is pleated up and the first row of basting done. (along with the hem parts beneath the apron pleats and the taper to the under-apron.)
I use a machine for the pleats btw, which is why it was done so quickly.
I am happy.
My Maple Leaf kilt is getting a little jealous of the attention as it still lies incomplete on the sewing table awaiting buckles, straps, and lining.

well, I have made something of a coup.
While waiting for the new material and after finishing kilt #2
I found a pattern that my wife had bought for about $3 in 1979 or so in Williamsburg for a Kinsale cloak
I had never used a pattern before and decided that I would try my hand.
I presented her finished cloak the day before Thanksgiving.
NOW I may not get so much grief when I take over an entire room with the making of a kilt
May you find joy in the wee, ken the universe in the peculiar and capture peace in the compass of drop of dew
