    St. Patrick's Parade March 3rd 2007 - Alexandria, VA

    The Alexandria St. Patrick's Day Parade is Saturday March 3rd 2007. Is anyone going?

    Why isn't the parade done on March 17th everywhere?

    Most parades, such as St. Patrick's Day parades, are generally held on the weekend here in the "colonies" because it allows many more people to attend and participate -- some folks are not able to get vacation from work during the week -- and the date might also be set as to not conflict with another parade/activity, as many in the Irish-American or Scottish-American community attend several events -- for example, we hold our Burns Supper a week before the Burns Supper in St. Louis, or else our band would not be able to come.

    Well the 17th this year is a Saturday so I guess it's 2 weeks earlier to avoid clashing with NYC and Alexandrians could also then attend that if they wanted to.

    We're going to Richmond tomorrow to visit the Museum of the Confederacy and the Confederate White House. Maybe next time. I will be kilted for the trip, so I'll be with you in spirit. I'll have to get the Mrs to shoot some pics for the forums.
