I read that most of the country today was scorched and hot- we got cold and rain in Denver! As my wife just observed, "I love the smell of wet wool!" We got to the venue where the fireworks were going to be displayed. I was wearing an olive green Amerikilt (very patriotic I think!) And then... it started blowing. The clouds moved in, it started raining and getting all kinds of cold. The kids all had hoodies. My wife decided to wear shorts. So after my AK blew up almost to my ears, we thought it would be a good idea for she and I to go home and change clothes. We live maybe 5 minutes from the venue, so it was no big deal. The kids kept our spot on the lawn, we went home and changed. I put on a nice 16oz wool kilt and grabbed my day plaid and Pendleton blanket. It's utterly amazing just how comfortable wool is in rain. The water ran off of it and I stayed nice and warm while everyone around me was freezing. I gave my plaid to my daughters friend so that she would be warm.

Point of all this? Wool is the best darned material I have ever had the pleasure of wearing! My kilt really made this particularly cold and rainy 4th a tolerable and enjoyable one. Hope you all had a good one, too!
