Thrift Store find of the year/lifetime!
Yesterday as I was checking out the area around my new place of employment, I found a thrift store 'Hope's Treasures' which funds homeless shelters. I went in hoping to find a tweed jacket for conversion. As I was browsing something caught my eye, I noticed a gauntlet cuff on a black jacket. Of course I did a double take because you just don't find this stuff in US thrift shops. I am now the proud owner of my first dress argyll jacket for the hefty sum of $6.30 US including tax. No holes or stains, I will need to have it cleaned, pressed and order buttons but the total should be less than $40. The only drawback is that it could have been one size larger, but for as often as I attend more formal affairs this will do fine.

Wow, nice find! Pics or it didn't happen, though.
I'm always hoping to find kilt-related stuff in thrift shops, but kilt-wearers in my area are pretty rare, so I've pretty much given up. Finding an Argyle jacket in a thrift shop, for me, would be as likely as finding a golden egg under a goose at the local park.

Blimey!
Our charity shops generally have a load of tatty gear, but nothing to compare with that!
Must spend more time in them - you never know...

Well done! I found a Prince Charlie coatee in excellent condition several years ago, and purchased it for the hefty sum of around $8.00. Since I do not wear that style of coatee (more of a Regulation Doublet man), I dhad it dry-cleaned, and promptly put it up on Ebay. I sold it for around $200.00! Quite a nice, little profit I'll say!
Cheers,

Wonderful!
I also dive into thrift shops on occasion. I can find the random Harris Tweed jacket or a nice vest, but that's about it. Only once (in Dallas) did I find a pre-owned Sportkilt and a well-used PC.
Be sure to post pics.

At 6'5' and 270#, wearing typically either a 50 or 52 (US) jacket with Long or Extra-Long sleeves, the likelihood of me finding something that would fit and be usefull to me is so remote that I do not bother wasting my time in thrift stores, although I envy those of you who have such success as above. Well done you. But pictures are definitely a requirement---soon.
