Rate Your Kingussie
I'm a scant few hours from starting to sew my next kilt. It will be a personal kilt and although not exclusively used for paddling in the dragon boat, it will certainly see much service in that regard as it is to replace the one I shrunk out of last year (yay me). I've got 5 yards of heavyweight wool here and am warring in my mind as to whether to knife pleat or kingussie pleat it. I'd love to hear from any and all kingussie kilt wearers about how they like their kingussies, how they perform etc. to help me make up my mind.

I can't vote or be of much help. I just sent my Xmarks PV out to be made into a Kingussie. I have been very much enjoyed the weight and look of my box pleated kilt but it is my only wool kilt. I am sure you will enjoy what ever style you choose.

Re: Rate Your Kingussie
I love mine. Had it for... four years or so. It's higher yardage, for a Kingussie (I'm either a four yard or eight yard man, if you get my meaning, and this kilt has five), so that may help to negate the effect that I've heard a couple folks say the wing has on theirs. Never had a problem, myself.
I reccomend them fully. As to how it handles under field conditions, it hasn't let me down yet:

Re: Rate Your Kingussie
No problems with my Keltoi built 6 yd Kingussie in 16oz Ancient Caledonia wool. It has a nice kind of lilt when walking briskly straight ahead due to the forward facing knife pleats on both sides catching a bit of the self generated breeze. With the busy pattern of the Caledonia tartan you really do not notice the Kingussie build so much. Only real significant difference, besides lighter weight from lower yardage, is that you have to actively sweep your pleats with both hands, but I generally try to do that with any kilt.
John Hart at Keltoi makes a nice kilt. No problems recommending his products, work ethic or service.

An excellent kilt, and probably my favorite, especially in hot weather.

Re: Rate Your Kingussie
Only one of my kilts remains with a Kingussie style of pleating, having tried various methods of pleating.
They do tend to fly up at the back - they would be an ideal garment for a sci fi creation of a being with a tail. The flying is not as revealing as it feels - the sensation is of a lot of fresh air, so they are just the thing for warmer climes.
For kneeling down they would be ideal, the pleats opening out easily.
I decided against the style when pushing my way through some undergrowth I became so stuck that I had to release the kilt and slide out of it before I could extricate first myself and then the kilt. The forward facing pleats are not the thing to wear on such expeditions.

Re: Rate Your Kingussie
I am the recent owner of a new 8yd pv. Before I critique it let me say that I do love it. The two main issues I have found compared to my eight yd wool knife pleat. First is due to the total yardage and the origin of the pleats being dead center rear there is a good amount of bulk right where I sit. There is a definite ridge of fabric between my thighs when seated. Next is due to the bidirectional pleats I really need to use both hands to sweep the pleats to get each side right. I can get away with just one if I catch the center pleat but one side will be less than perfect.
Now that said I will be ordering another exactly the same (pleated to a different stripe) so it is something I can live with.
