    Border wear (and an introduction)

    Dear fellow members

I'm new here but, by way of introduction, I'd like to say my Scottish ancestors came mostly from the Borders (West March). As a result, I have a particular interest in Border history, lore and dress. Sadly, I find it a largely overlooked part of current Scottish knowledge which is somewhat ironic as Border practices have influenced cultures around the world from Northern Ireland to North America to Australasia.

Anyhow, I am a strong proponent of the maud as a symbol of the Anglo-Scottish border and wrote the following article on Wikipedia that you might be interested in: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maud_(plaid) Incidentally, the old maud pictured at the top is mine, originally from the Lanarkshire area. I hope you enjoy.

I see there are a few threads on Border wear but I would be interested in hearing from others with connections to the Borders or Border clans.

    Yours aye
