Demands of bride and groom in Finland
Two of my very loved one's are going to be married.
That's ok, but they also made an ultimatum: I have to wear a kilt, with Prince Charlie jacket and 5-button waistcoat and a cloak. And they are getting me a staff like Gandalf the Grey in Peter Jackons movies (ok, I have been smoking a pipe last twenty years so pipe comes with me). And I have to make a speech. Well, the speech is not my biggest concern, I'm more concerned about my outfit. Heritage of Scotland tartan kilt and scottish thistle in beltbuckle, cufflinks, sgian dubh and sporran. Night blue cloak.
I do not have a scottish heritage and I'm proud to be finnish who dears to use a kilt. But is it okay?

Sapal;
If you are willing to do it, go for it. They obviously want you there in a kilt otherwise they wouldn't demand it.

Hummm, that’s a tricky one! However there is a short term simple answer. No! Or, yes! Depending on what YOU decide. What happens after that, only time will tell.
What would I do? Simple, a two word answer where the second word is, OFF!

How is this possible, after 15 years I just learned that you do not use belt with Prince Charlie or with waistcoat?

Do it!
Sapal, as you stated that the bride and groom are dear loved ones, I would not do what Jock said he would do. There are plenty of people who wear the kilt and have no ancestral ties to Scotland. I say "why not?"
Cheers,
David

OTOH, sometimes it’s your closest friends and family you can speak plainly and honestly with.
Sometimes people need to hear that a plan is foolish from a close friend when no one else is willing to. Maybe in gentler language than Jock suggested! ;)
Whether that applies in this case, I won’t say, but I thought it would be worth mentioning.

It sounds like they’re going for some sort of fantasy theme? The Prince Charlie probably isn’t quite the coat for that since it is a modern formal jacket.
With the cloak and the wizard staff, perhaps something more Outlander in appearance would make more sense as that isn’t truly historical.

I would do what they ask for.
Sounds fun!
BTW do they want the grey Gandalf cloak? Or a black cape to match the Prince Charlie?
The Gandalf cloak is quite a thing! https://www.etsy.com/listing/1743124...d%3A1743124950
On the other hand, the Prince Charlie is Evening Dress and there did exist a traditional black "opera cape" which was designed to be worn with the tuxedo.
My inclination would be to either double down on the Gandalf thing, or double down on the Evening Dress thing.
