Turn-ups on tartan TROUSERS?

I grabbed some images from the page. The static images are MacKay weathered, then MacKenzie & Black Watch on the models... but I probably didn't need to tell you that.

The problem with these trousers is not the turn-ups, but the ghastly hipster cut - waist far too low and what tailors call a 'hungry bum'. Not enough material in the seat area, and an alarming risk to the wearer's comfort when he tries to sit down.

I learnt too many years ago, Trog, that sadly my body-shape would not fit into the style of trews that you feature here. I have used the excuse of the demise of Haggarts to not to get myself another pair of more sensibly cut tartan trousers. However, one of my sons has a super pair of tartan trousers made at Campbells that has rekindled my thoughts of getting another pair. The trouble is that I might not live long enough to get them made, never mind getting my money's worth of wear, out of them!

But I know just what you mean. Getting the cost-per-wear balanced with life-expectancy is a bit of a quandry once a chap reaches mature years.

But they always tell us that you cannot take it with you, so why not splash-out while you can?

In re Haggarts, their old shop was a real treat to visit, and the world has not been the same since their demise. I had them make me an Inverness cape in one of their superb heavy 28oz tweeds, that I cherish - I now wish I had also had them run-up the suit I was promising myself at the same time.

But Campbells are still running with the baton, and the young couple who took on the business know their stuff. My own measurements must still be on file there, thanks to old Mr C. I wonder if they are still accurate...
