Heads-up: D.C. Dalgliesh yarns now available to browse online

I thought some of you might like to know that we've just added a section to the D.C. Dalgliesh web site with images of all the yarn colours that we aim to hold in stock. You'll find this at http://www.dcdalgliesh.co.uk/yarns.html

The intention is to hold stocks of these in both heavy and light weight wools (though the silks range is smaller) on a long-term basis. This should allow more consistency, both between garments in different weights, and over time.

We hope this will be helpful to anyone commissioning woven tartans. It's also the next building block in our ongoing development strategy. Watch this space.

    Cheers

    Nick

Thanks for this, Nick. This will be of great help when ordering custom tartans.

Funnily enough, when I was chatting about this earlier, I said that I thought it might be useful to "people like Matt Newsome". ;-)

Nick, thank you for this. It is a fantastic resource, and will probably eliminate the number of samples that need to be sent out during the preliminary colour selection of the custom design process.

    Nick, this is very helpful!

I did a quick comparison of the colors on the D.C. Dalgliesh website (under "Our Stock Wool Shades"), and noticed that there seem to be more shades available on the DCD site than are available in the Weaver's colors in the Design Your Own Tartan section of the Scotweb site.

Is there any way to know which color on the Tartan Designer page (which are named) corresponds to the yarn colors on the DCD site (which are numbered)?

If not, perhaps that's something to consider for a future iteration of your wonderful Tartan Designer software.

You are absolutely correct. Full marks for observation. :-) The reason is that our Tartan Designer fabrics are not normally produced by Dalgliesh, but by another mill on computerised looms (and so without a kilting selvedge).

It is indeed our intention to offer Dalgliesh weaves as an option from the Tartan Designer too. But regretably our technical workload at the moment is such that it is unlikely to be done within the next month or two at least.

On the other hand, we do also have plans in development for the Dalgliesh site itself (or for ordering Dalgliesh fabrics from Scotweb) that will both introduce and extend some of the same functionality, which I hope everyone will find pretty exciting once we're done. As I say, watch this space...

Would it be possible for the yarn producers to make knitting yarn in the same shades that Dalgliesh uses? This would be very helpful to hose knitters when trying to match a certain shade in a certain tartan.

When given a choice, most people will choose.

I'm sure it would be possible.

Whether it would be economic, is another question. It would be a lot of special dying.
