My first DIY sporran straps
Edit: more pics in action
Hi all,
Well, I've done it... I have documented it so that you could all see how tough and difficult this project was.
On to the first picture:
I got the sporrans on sale at SWK. Black and brown. I don't like the chain straps, so I got a woman's belt from Wa;mart. (in black and brown)
Paid 15$CAN each (I'm considering getting some more in case they break)
Second picture
I recycled the clips from the chain strap...
Third and fourth pictures
Before and after shots of a delicate operation. Took a pair of old broken scissors just in case.(actually, it's all I have.... I have to get some appropriate tools). I basically let the scissors loose on the first link. Then I had to wrestle to get control of them before they made a mess of things...
Fifth picture
The Result...
Sixth and final picture
I now have a good looking strap that is adjustable. I have no buckle to snag at my kilt. It's a bit fancier that just a plain strap, but then again, I am wearing a kilt....
So, there it is, my first DIY, but not my last.
Thank you for joining me in my adventure, until next time.
Here's a few pictures with it on

Looks good. I have also recycled belts that way (and purse shoulder straps).
You might turn the clips over so the sharp edges are against the back of the sporran instead of against your kilt apron.

Quite right, no need to turn the clips, I'll simply flip the belt...

Well, you're off and running now! Remember one sporran strap leads to another, to a sporran, to making kilts of all kinds. It's a slippery slope.

One more suggestion: If you cut the belt in the middle as opposed to by the buckle, you can leave it so the buckle falls in the middle of the back (or wherever you choose) and thereby have an instantly adjustable strap.

Dan
