WOW, Alan! That looks GRRRRRRRRRREAT! I love the contrast that pleating to the stripe offers.

That's short! *Gets back on treadmill*

Kidding! That's the same length as my other kilts and they are all very respectable. That length is very much on the longer end of the spectrum as far as ladies throwing kilts go.... well the ladies I threw with in Ventura, anyway.

Re: The next project: a throwing/pubbing kilt for GGGP!

I did the right-hand edge of the over-apron this morning, including the double-fringe. It looks good. I also had some scraps that are getting turned into flashes....half done with those while the guy was here doing a termite inspection...

    yes, we have ()*&#*$(& termites.

I am about to break my arm congratulating myself. When I hemmed the kilt, I remembered to turn up the hem 1/4 inch under the over-apron deep pleat. Usually I forget, hem the kilt straight, and then have to go back and rip the stitches out for those 5-6 inches and re-sew. Not this time!!

That's really coming along nicely. Looking forward to the final. That's gonna be a great looking kilt.

That's nice, Jim! It's a nice tartan, you can't hide in Warrior. I am also breaking with tradition, and closing GGGP's kilt on the right side instead of the left. HORRORS! .... Oh, well, GGGP is a wild and crazy girl, I'm sure this just all fits in with her modus operandi. Combining this with the different pleating styles will also separate GGGP's kilt from Summers..... Summers is closed on the left.

Today I tapered the pleats and tried something new to ease up on the number of pins needed. It sorta worked. Because the contrast between the single white line and the dark, dark purple and black of the rest of the tartan is SO stark, there is no room for error, here. I sewed three pleats, ripped out two of them and re-sewed them. In fact I don't think I can pin this one, I'm going to have to hand-hold every pleat through the machine and micro-adjust as I go along every 4-5 stitches. Since the fell is only 5 3/4 inches, this won't be so bad. I'm going to see this kilt in action and if the stripes don't line up, I'm gonna have to look at it.

Re: The next project: a throwing/pubbing kilt for GGGP!

Sewed down half the pleats today. There was much fiddling with stripes, and I ripped out and re-sewed three of the 12 I sewed down, to get the white stripe lined up right. I've discovered a little trick with a pin that is helping.

This should.....fingers crossed.... be ready for GGGP before Christmas.

I will have a bunch of 22-inch wide tartan left over. I am thinking about attempting a waistcoat. This would be a practice waistcoat. I'm thinking about it because now that I am finally sewing again, it's pretty likely that I will get back to work on my Ancient MacNaughton. I suspect that I am going to have at least a yard, maybe more of the tartan left over...24 inches wide...when I am done. I have no other use for it, I might as well make a waistcoat....

Then again, there's someone I know who might like a corset or similar top out of this Warrior tartan stuff.

    We shall see.

That's a lot of tedious work! I see why I'm paying you the big bucks.
That's so nice of you to wish to get it out before Christmas, but that isn't necessary. There aren't any events until Feb.

    Those tops are cute!

After several days hiatus and a busy weekend, I got back to work this morning and stitched down the rest of the pleats in a 40 minute go go go go session. It's looking like a kilt!
