    Wildcat Tartan on the loom

Paul Henry shared this picture of Scottish Wildcat Tartan run #2 getting woven. I thought you lads and lasses might enjoy it.

Very exciting - it looks beautiful. Guess I'll need to start thinking more seriously about what I'm going to do with mine when it arrives!

But I don't know what a wildcat tartan is. What makes a tartan a wildcat.

This tartan was designed as a fundraiser to help the endangered Scottish Wildcat.

I LOVE seeing tartan on a loom. Many (many!) years before I became a kiltmaker, I was a weaver and wove tartan. I still remember how gorgeous a tartan warp looks on the loom and how fabulous it was to see the tartan emerge as I wove the web. Funny how things come around.....

I missed the first run of this tartan - hopefully I can get in on this run!

Generally, the fabric isn't produced until enough customers commit to a sufficient total quantity to make weaving affordable. The fabric isn't produced in advance and then customers for it sought. Every yard coming off the loom is likely already spoken for. With that said, Paul's web site suggests he may end up with a few extra yards from the current run. If you'd like to order some, contact Paul Henry Kilts (http://www.paulhenrykilts.com/wildcat.html).
