Davidson?

I own three UK and was looking to get a more traditional kilt, I have been told that (Dean) is a set of davidson. It dose not seem that any of the casual kilt makers carry this tarten, is their some reason that I don't know of?

I looked in my source, and yes; Dean is indeed a sept name of Clan Davidson. Don't know why your kiltmaking sources would not have it, other than I would think it very difficult to stock a lot of fabric, when it can be had from fabric sources within a few days.

Davidsons and Shaws are fellow members of the great Clan Chattan Confederation, so you could also wear the Clan Chattan tartan as well.

I have a friend who is a Dean and he is looking for a kilt in the Davidson of Tulloch tartan. I don't think the Davidson tartan is a special weave. I'm curious as to who you are looking at when you say casual kiltmaker. If you are looking at kilts that are not wool, then I doubt you will find it. I don't think Marton Mills weaves Poly/Viscose in the Davidson tartan.

There was a family who called themselves "Dean alias Davidson" on the Mackintosh estates in Petty in the 17C and early 18C. It's based on this family that all of the name of Dean are claimed as a sept of Davidson, although there were Deans in Ayrshire, Aberdeenshire and Perthshire at even earlier dates.

If you can trace yourself back to the Deans of Petty it's interesting that you can quite legitimately claim a connection with and wear the Davidson, Mackintosh and Clan Chattan tartans, but not the Davidson of Tulloch; the Deans had left the Petty lands long before the Tulloch line was accepted as chiefs of Davidson.

If, however, you cannot claim descent from the Deans of Petty, but wish to wear the Davidson tartan, you can also wear the Clan Chattan because of the Davidson membership in the confederation, but wearing the Mackintosh would probably be considered wrong from a "connection" perspective.

I would like to get two eventual, first off I was looking for something like the usakilts or sport kilts..not wool, but also wanted to get a tank as soon as it is possible....

A year ago, Sportkilt announced that they were going to offer the Davidson tartan. I don't know if they ever got it. They don't have it listed among their tartan offerings now.

I have a Davidson kilt I would like to sell. I bought it on EBay, thinking it was a Morrison tartan, from the photo of it. (The tartan wasn't identified in the ad.) The buyer said that it was his kilt in a military school. It's quite heavy, probably 16 oz wool. There is a tag that says the cloth is 100% new wool manufactured by Strathmore. Another tag says only "100% wool, Made in Scotland" but not by whom.

The size was advertised as "42 inches and below" on EBay. My waist is (usually) 41" and it fits me well at the largest strap hole.. However, I just measured it with a tape measure, and it measures 37 1/2'' to 40 1/2'' on the inside.

It's pleated to the stripe, the red stripe. There are 27 pleats that are four inches deep. It has a kilting selvedge, and is 23 1/2'' long.

It's in good condition with no signs of wear and tear that I can see.

I will sell it for $150, which would include the cost of shipping via USPS.
