I think I found my angle!
We're in India right now (in Hyderabad, if anyone cares). My wife is on business, and I tagged along to see a country I've never visited before.
Last time my wife was here she bought a sari, and she looks great in it. Every now and again she'll bust it out and we'll go out to dinner at one of the nicer Indian restaurants in Chicago. This trip, she decided she wanted another, preferably something a bit more casual that she could wear to the office when she's in India. A co-worker of her's took us to a local shop, and after examining what seemed like hundreds of fabrics, we're looking at a stack of four saris. My wife looked at me and asked, "is four too many?" (Keep in mind, she makes all the money - I can't well put up too much of an argument, can I?).
Luckily, my brain was engaged. I just said, "Tell you what - you get those four saris, and I get another kilt."
She bought four saris.
So, gentlemen, if you have an SO who maybe doesn't quite get the kilt thing, just find an ethnic form of dress that they like, and problem solved.
Now - Kerr or Roxburgh tartan? Modern or ancient/weathered? Which mill? Which kilt-maker? Still not as many choices as there are when looking for a sari.

That's a great way to support each other.
Fun story.
Regards,
Rex.
At any moment you must be prepared to give up who you are today for who you could become tomorrow.

Hyderabad! Wow, does that bring back memories... I lived there in 2007-2008 for 6 months. Have you done all the sites yet? (Charminar, Golkonda, Qutb Shahi Tombs??)
Back on topic, all you need now is a kilt that blends with her saris..

That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country who no longer understand it." anon

That's great news. Glad you found an angle.
I'll have to unfortunately keep searching for my angle. My SO gets all her ao dai free from her mother.
Good luck with your decision of which kilt to get next.

Sightseeing will be on Saturday. We were going to go out on Sun, but there was so much smoke hanging around from all the Diwali fireworks, the view from Golconda wouldn't have been that good.
I felt obligated to buy a couple of kurtas to wear when my wife dons her saris. Fortunately, I just found out we have a company function to attend Saturday night, so they won't gather dust.

If you were to purchase non-wool kilts, you could get three.

Since you're from Chicago, consider joining your wife in Indian attire for the next kilt meet!
Look down the photos to see what Brewboy got me into when I needed to dry out from last year's Celtic Fest.

Ah Yes, Diwali! What a great festival in Hyderabad. The entire city lights up for three straight nights with massive fireworks. The smell of gunpowder over-whelming the city. It was one of my favorite festivals.
If your interested in what some of the sites are, check out my photo album here...

The idea of the "Odd Couple" comes to mind when I imagine a kilted man and saried woman out to dinner. Glad you guys can compromise. :-)
