Any suggestions?
In a different post I had all but made up my mind to buy a tank and half belted plaid in the Order of the Rouse Clan Hunting tartan.

I'm a bit more comfortable in the more toned down colors, reserving the bright stuff for reenactment events where pageantry is the name of the game. My wife however made it very well known that she would rather (since this is a special pre-registry weave project) I get a kilt in the Order of the Rouse Clan tartan (standard colors). The idea being that I could save a bit by going in with the rest of the group when we order the Hunting tartan in 2014 so that we all can have our garments all in time for the kick off dinner in early February of 2015. This tartan is a bit louder than what I'm used to, in fact it will be the only yellow in my wardrobe.

This leaves me a couple of questions. First: Does anyone have any recommendations for someone to make a special weave kilt for me and a fringed shawl for the Mrs. (I won't be donning a plaid in this tartan. It would be a brightness overload.)
Secondly: What color options should I consider when I start accessorizing (hose, jacket, waistcoat, etc.) to help tone it down a bit? I have a dark green Kenmore doublet in the works for black/ white tie functions. However, that will likely not be the only time this kilt will be worn.

Well, it sounds (from your group's website) as if your reenactments are done in good humor for the joy of those in attendance, rather than in an effort to achieve absolute historical accuracy, so it's not an issue that kilts weren't worn until well after the period of heavily armored knights. As a former SCA member (back when I was younger, thinner, and thought that getting bashed in the head with a rattan waster was fun), I applaud your work.
If you'd like a kilt that reflects the earliest documented style of tailored kilts, with high quality and excellent customer service, you might consider having Matt Newsome do a box pleated kilt for you. Matt's a forum member, but if you're not familiar with his work, you can see examples at www.newhousehighland.com .

The kilt is for non-reenactment purposes. See this thread for more info. http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/f...designs-79564/ Our accuracy is dependent on our venue. For the Educational circuit we step up the accuracy, but sometimes we are called upon just to provide a good time. (I'm sort of the period Nazi of the troop )
Oh, and Stan, I am pitching in with the rest of the group for the hunting, but I'm wanting to wear one of the Order's tartans for the modern formal kick off that I'm to be honored at this upcoming February. BTW, I like some of your color suggestions. I have a pair of black flashes that don't see any use, but I'm not sure on the color of hose they would work best with.

Hi Sir D. and here's my 2 cents worth.
First off I'll address the fringed shawl weaving. A few months ago I was at the highland games in Yukon OK, and spent some time talking to a custom (tartan) weaver who seemed to specialize in (fringed) shawl weaving.
The web address for them is www.stcroixweaving.com. They seemed to know what they were doing, and apparently make their living weaving tartans.
I don't know if the above reference vendors weave Kilt quality material or not. For a custom weave I'd be thinking about going to D.C Daglish (sp?), house of Edger, or some place like that, but (admittedly) I have no (ZERO) expertise in this area.
Second, for hose and flash suggestion, I'd look at wearing dark brown hose, lovet green hose, black hose, and dark mustard hose. For flashes I'd have burnt orange, black, orange, dark green. TARTAN flashes, and maybe white.
Hose - flash Combos: black hose and burnt orange flashes. Dark green hose and mustard color flashes. Dark brown hose, and burnt orange flashes, or lovet green flashes. White hose, and (matching) tartan flashes.
Depending on how much the price difference is I think that I'd go for the discount, and throw in with the rest of the buyers for a group discount on the weaving of the custom call tartan.
