Cool Brown for Day, Black for Night

I've been told that for daywear, it should be brown sporran, brown shoes, brown belt, horn sgian dubh, brass belt buckle, etc. Problem is, there are so few brown and brass accessories out there.

For example: Frugal Corner has a few brass belt buckles, but most are silver color. They don't have any brown sporrans except for a brown goatskin with siilver cantle. (see link) Would this be appropriate for daywear?

    http://www.thefrugalcorner.com/sporrans.htm

    Thanks in advance, ColMac

PS - what are Frugal Corner's 16 ounce kilts like?

    Brown and Brass

You might try the Scottish Tartans Museum Gift Shop or Oconee Leather-works. They both sell brown leather belts, etc with brass hardware.

A year or so ago I even noticed a site that had brown ghillie brogues, if that trips your trigger. You might also want to check out Turpin's sporrans with the interchangable flaps.

Look into our own Donnie for brown sporrans, sporran belts, and belts at wyvernleatherworks.com OR oconeeleatherworks for great belts and sporran belts,OR RKilts for some belts and sporrans. There is a lot of "stuff" out there so keep asking this rabble.

I'd say a Brown Leather sporran would be your best bet for daywear, I know you can get a Buzz Kidder sporran in brown, you could also look at Freelander Sporrans for a brown sporran.

I'll second the Freelander Sporrans suggestion. My brown sporran is a Freelander, and it's absolutely top shelf. You might also try USA Kilts, Rocky recently added a whole line of brown accessories.

You will find this isn't necessarily true, Colonel MacNeal. Many Highland gentlemen wear black shoes with the kilt, with brown sporrans. If they wear a belt, it usually is black, but not always. It is also a great misconception that one cannot use silver for daywear. Total fabrication! If you want to wear a brass buckle on your belt, great, but silver is certainly "allowed by the rules." What sort of metal would you suggest for an armiger who wishes to wear his crest on his leather (black or brown) day sporran?

The point I and many of my brethren who follow the more traditional form of wearing the kilt try to make is that among the well-dressed in the Highlands, these engraved-in-stone regulations just do not exist, try as you may to convince us otherwise! Black shoes? Fine. Brown shoes? Okay. Silver cantle on day sporran? Sure. Brass? Perfect. Black belt? By all means. Brown belt? Ditto. You get the point.

PS. And what about animal mask sporrans? They certainly are popular for daywear. I wear my otter mask sporran quite frequently.

I hadn't heard of this rule - most would think that matching colour of sporran with footwear would be the norm but this isn't actually to do with the time of day.

And few would think of matching a hairy/furry sporran with hairy/furry footwear!
