Question about the fingerless gloves
Hey there, Matt. I plan to order a pair of the fingerless gloves from you, but I was wondering if they close around the fingers at all, or if they're just open like a sweater sleeve. Also, do you have lovat green? I saw a light green. Is that the same as a lovat?

Re: Question about the fingerless gloves
Nighthawk,
Thanks for the interest in the fingerless gloves, which my wife knits. Now that the weather is getting cooler, I've been enjoying mine, as well!
While my wife does have a few pair made up that she has currently on consignment in the STM giftshop (no lovat green, I'm afraid), this is not something that the STM is set up to take online ordering for, so you'll be ordering direct from my wife.
In light of that, I'll PM you the details, if you don't mind. Thanks!
Matt

Re: Question about the fingerless gloves
Fingerless and half-finger gloves are one of the very best things a man can have. If you have known about then, but never had them, you will wonder: Why did I wait so long to get them? They work!

I actually have a pair of Isatoner gloves. I want something that will look good with my Renaissance Scots garb, as well as being functional. A lot of my clothing does double duty in that way- my Ryan Ross bonnet for example!

Re: Question about the fingerless gloves
I never could understand the concept. Granted, I've never tried them, but when I wear regular gloves, it's my fingertips that get cold first. So I've always thought that people who wear them are more concerned about looks than they are about the weather. That or they're joining the Fagin Academy for homeless boys. But after reading the above, I am reviewing the situation.
Scotland is only 1/5 the size of Montana, but Scotland has over 3,000 castles and Montana has none.

The concept is straightforward: in a fingerless glove, your homeothermic countercurrent blood vascular system keeps your hands and fingers warm while you are using your fingertips.
If one were not using their fingertips, then a mitten would keep one's fingers even warmer.
When either hunting, fishing, or performing some other tasks in extreme cold, I usually have both fingerless gloves and mittens with me.

Re: Question about the fingerless gloves
Not wishing to tread on Matt's toes, but if you "google" Barbour clothing and go to the glove section you will see mittens for sale. Almost standard issue for farmers, outdoors-men, shooting types and fishermen in the UK and rightly so.
I don't remember where I got them, but I have a pair of wool mittens with a fold back cover held back by velcro so that when the tips of the fingers are needed they can be easily uncovered. First class kit.

Re: Question about the fingerless gloves
I've had several pairs of convertible mittens now. They are great. When it's cold, the mittens keep my fingers toasty warm. But when I need to pick something up (like my keys) I don't fumble for them. They are also great as fingerless gloves when the temperature is too warm for gloves, but your hands get cold anyway.
