Anyone ever have problems with House of Edgar?

Here's why I ask: months ago, just as I was starting to take free pipe/chanter lessons through the local pipe band, they were ordering new kilts from House of Edgar, who had come verrrrrrry highly recommended. Before, each member had worn their own tartan. A year or two ago, the decision was made to get matching kilts.

When the kilts arrived, the kilts didn't match the swatches that had been sent. The kilts didn't even come close to fitting anyone -- it was like they got our band's measurements mixed up with someone else's. It was just awful.

The pipe major made mutiple attempts to e-mail, then to call, and when he finally reached someone, they pretty much told him to take a hike. Well, after all, there is an ocean between us and them, right?

The bottom line is, everyone in the band had to have their kilt altered substantially, which is no cheap proposition.

Has anyone else ever had a problem even remotely this big with them?

When we deal with house of edgar, their product is top knotch. That being said, when there IS a problem (which is rare), they don't like to admit fault and have poor customer service.

Luckily, we rarely have problems with items from them.

I am saddened to hear of this. In total, I have had four kilts from The House of Edgar - or 'Tartan Kilts.com' www.tartankilts.com which is their kilt-making subsidiary - and each one has been absolutely superb; utterly faultless. I know of one kiltie who has had all of his kilts from them, simply because he was more than satisfied with the first one.

It would appear that your Pipe-Major caught someone having a VERY bad day, but that is no excuse for the giving of such treatment to a valued customer.

    Good Luck, and

    Take care,
    Ham.

Kilt measuring is a skill and every kilt maker has their own guidelines for doing such. I would recommend having a person measure the band, rather than members giving their sizes to somebody.

Sadly that is exactly what it sounds like happened here. If people give bad or incorrect measurements than the kilt maker is going to get a little upset if you expect them to fix the mistake. Having said all that, there is no good reason why they made kilts from material that did not match the swatch they sent. Maybe it was a different weight. Does anybody no if that would account for any irregularities in how the kilt looks a little off from the swatch?

House of Edgar is a highly reputable firm and it is sad to hear that you experienced such problems. They should probably stick to weaving and leave others to sort out the problems that come from dealing with the public.
