Kilt strap extenders: When do you need them?
I know a few ppl here have purchased the kilt strap extenders from various venders.
I have a kilt that says its a 36 and well i am about a 38 these days. I have both buckles on the last hole and the kilt is a little snug. but the main concern is the right side seams to show a lot of under apron. The space of my entire right hip is only under on layer of fabric. As well the pleats on the left hip side are opening up .
taking pictures of this by myself is a bit tricky. i will if need be.
I didnt spend a lot of money on the kilt but it was my first and i bought in on my honeymoon in Edinburgh.
what to do?

Search up that thread on extenders it'll show pics...for $15 from Rocky (USA Kilts) you can't go wrong...you'll be ready for 40 and 42. check the width of your existing straps to get the right size.
I found that since all three extenders are used the apron stays balanced. The left extender is hidden under the kilt. The right side just looks a little more "metallic"
I'm using them on two hand sewn wool kilts that "shrank" on me.

It was your thread about the extenders that got me thinking. do you have any pics of your wearing the kilt with the extenders in place? if so you wouldnt have the side profile like i have posted?
now if you have these pics, would you be so kind as to post em so i can see them
once again thank you

Note that the extenders won't solve the problem of the underapron showing, though.

Good point, for an inexpensive kilt. Guess I don't have the underapron problem since mine that I "extended" are hand sewns.

2nd the left

3rd one more of the left. notice the pleats opening

like i said in the original post. the kilt was rather in expensive, so i may just have to chalk it up to poor craftsman ship .
So now to the question, do i need strap extenders?

This would be true of any kilt, hand sewn or not. Once the kilt is too small, the underapron shows. If the kilt is too small, it just doesn't go around you as far as it used to. A kilt is made so that the fringe edge just covers the edge of the underapron. If you gain two inches in the waist, nothing you can do short of altering the kilt will prevent the underapron from showing, and strap extenders won't help.
If it's so small that you can't get the straps through the buckles, you either have to move the buckles or add length to the straps. Both accomplish exactly the same thing - they simply allow you to buckle the kilt at a larger circumference than the kilt was made for. Strap extenders simply boil down to using longer straps instead of moving the location of the buckles.
