Good point, for an inexpensive kilt. Guess I don't have the underapron problem since mine that I "extended" are hand sewns.

like i said in the original post. the kilt was rather in expensive, so i may just have to chalk it up to poor craftsman ship .
So now to the question, do i need strap extenders?

This would be true of any kilt, hand sewn or not. Once the kilt is too small, the underapron shows. If the kilt is too small, it just doesn't go around you as far as it used to. A kilt is made so that the fringe edge just covers the edge of the underapron. If you gain two inches in the waist, nothing you can do short of altering the kilt will prevent the underapron from showing, and strap extenders won't help.
If it's so small that you can't get the straps through the buckles, you either have to move the buckles or add length to the straps. Both accomplish exactly the same thing - they simply allow you to buckle the kilt at a larger circumference than the kilt was made for. Strap extenders simply boil down to using longer straps instead of moving the location of the buckles.
